Using the GPS with the 182 RG

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have the 182RG and love it although I made two changes. I swapped out the AP for a easier to use one and changed the sound file to the AreZone 182 RG sound set which I highly recommend. It has a nice, smooth, realistic sound without any looping. Great touchdown sound too.

There is no GPS/NAV switch on this Autopilot though. (I could never get the default AP to work right so that's why i changed it.)

Do you need a GPS/NAV switch in order to couple the GPS with the AP? I've been flying with the GPS by guiding myself along the Magenta course line, and using the AP for altitude hold, etc. I'd like the GPS and AP to follow a complete course with all the waypoints instead of just using the AP to follow VOR routes with the OBS. Is there a way to do this without the GPS switch? Thanks. Tom

You can set a GPS/NAV toggle in the keyboard settings.

You can add the NAV/GPS switch from the FSX C172 to the panel.

gaugeXX=Cessna!Nav GPS Switch, nn,nn,nn,nn

Or, go all out and buy a Reality XP GNS and install it in the panel.. it has a built in switch..

I don't have that bird but it looks like it uses the same GPS as the C340, in which case the "CDI" button on the GPS toggles NAV/GPS I believe. Worth a try anyway...

EDIT: I see now that the screenshot is with the RXP gauges installed, disregard. ...and I just did a flight in the FS9 version of this bird last night so I should have known better, lol!

Thanks for the help, guys!

Bert,

That's a beautiful installation. That is also the same autopilot that I added. The problem is I can't remember how I installed it. I was talked through it by someone who was very helpful online. The XX in the line above I know is the gauge number. What are the "nn,nn,nn" values? Is the "GaugeXX" line the only one needed? I seem to remember another entry. Also , was the nav stack hard to install in your plane? I'm not too familiar with the modification process. Thanks. Tom

The nn numbers are the location and the size - x, y, width, height

x,y are the coordinates of the upper left corner of the gauge.

In the Vcockpit02 section try

//gauge01=CessnaRGRadios!RadioAP2, 256,0,256,113

....

gauge12=Cessna!Nav GPS Switch, 256,10,30,30

Thanks Bert. I'll give that a try. :smile: Tom

Hey Bert,

Nice panel...

The radio and autopilot look like Friendley panel versions...Is that correct and do you reccomend them?

Dave

These are actually the default FS9 units... here is the panel.cfg section:

[Vcockpit02]

.....

gauge00=rxpGNS!GMA340, 1,3,249,60

gauge01=rxpGNS!GNS430, 0,65,249,119

gauge02=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio Nav-Comm 2, 2, 185, 249, 100

gauge03=rxpGNS!GTX327, 2,285,247,65

gauge04=Bendix_King_Radio!Bendix-King Radio AP, 256, 115, 249, 63

gauge05=CessnaRG2!start, 384,238,128,127

gauge06=CessnaRG4!FuelPress, 256,238,128,128

gauge07=CessnaRGRadios!RadioDME, 256,179,256,57

gauge08=CessnaRG2!EngineL, 0,374,448,67

gauge09=CessnaRG2!EngineR, 0,445,448,67

gauge10=CessnaRG7!GearLightUp, 448,383,64,64

gauge11=CessnaRG7!GearLightDown, 448,448,64,64

Hi Bert,

Please forgive me, but as I said above, I am not that experienced in editing. As long as someone tells me exactly what to put where, I should be fine.

From what I see in your Vcockpit02 configuration above, if I type exactly what's above will my radio stack look just like yours? And if I want to include the GPS switch, if I add the above GPS lines and just number the Gauge with the next number (such as 12 in your example) I'll be set to go?

Is it just as easy to include the same lines in the 2D panel as well? Thanks. Tom

Hi Tom,

The gauges that start with rxpGNS, are part of the Reality XP GNS package, so if you do not have that installed,

you will get black rectangles where those gauges are in the radio stack.

To get the switch, you need the lines

//gauge01=CessnaRGRadios!RadioAP2, 256,0,256,113

....

gauge12=Cessna!Nav GPS Switch, 256,10,30,30

The first (changed) line, tells FSX to ignore the Carenado autopilot (// before a line, makes that line into a comment)

The second (new) line, and yes the gauge number is simply the next available number, tells FS to install the switch.

Just try it (after backing up your panel file).

The same logic works for the 2d panel.

If you would like a hand with this, just send me a PM with your email address,

and we can work it out one-on-one.

Thanks again Bert. I'll let you know how I make out. Since I already have a Bendix King A/P installed do I still have to disable the Carenado one? Tom

Thanks Bert, I just used your gauge coords to install the SimFlyer equivalents into the FS9 version of this plane! Forgot I had those, they fit like a glove and all I did was swap out "rxpGNS" for "SFGNSSX" for the most part.

Thanks!
