Reverser and takeoff performance

Featured Replies

Hello there,

I have just bought the PMDG NGX and I really just wanted to say what an outstanding simulation it is. The sounds, the model, the systems - they are just excellent. I also bought the 747 recently, as I've had FLight Sim for years but because I've been living under a rock, I never bought it. It too is really brilliant, but the 737 is just outstanding.

I had two simple points - first of all the reverser sounds are a little off, I would say. When you select idle reverse for landing, it sounds like you have full reverse thrust - this wouldn't happen in real life. In the real aircraft I believe they would always open the reversers to reverse idle even if they didn't want to use reverse thrust. this wouldn't make the loud engine sound. or would it? any correction would be gratefully received.

Also, does anyone know a decent fuel/takeoff thrust calculator for the 737? I can't seem to find a freeware one on the net, and the one i bought for about 2 euros is rubbish. Whatever statistics I enter into it, it just gives me 50 degrees thrust setting.

Anyway, thank you for a really excellent simulation. I am virtually wetting myself now in anticipation of the 777.

All the best,

John

The reverse sound is an FS limitation. For reverse thrust sound, FS just "plays" a sound file in a loop, it doesn't get louder or change pitch by throttle inputs. Think of it as the same as the flap sound, it plays in a loop but doesn't get louder or change pitch by throttle inputs. Hope this helps :)

Possibly PMDG got around this issue somehow, just as they did with so many other FSX limitations. The NGX wouldn't be the first aircraft with this.

Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!

I have the NGX, no it hasn't been fixed unfortunately. What is happening is if you press F2 once or twice, the reversed doors will open and you will have idle reverse, but the reverse thrust sound will not have started playing yet. Press F2 three or four times then the constant reverse sound will play. It's one of those limitations that can't really be fixed. I will look into it however :)
