November 7, 201213 yr Commercial Member After I got new Asus motherboard and overlocked my CPU to 4.4ghz I have started to get some ugly screen tearing, especially with addon airports and gauges in cockpit whenever moving. I have Bojotes tweaks in my FSX.cfg, under [graphics] I have ForceWindowedVsync=1 , and even tried to set forced Vsync from Catalyst Control Center, however nothing seems to help, whenever moving gauges and sides of taxiways & runways and buildings of custom airports still have this ugly tearing instead of looking smooth. System specs: I7 2600k @4.4ghz, Radeon 6990, 8GB RAM, ASUS P8Z77-V LE motherboard. I tried to reset fsx.cfg but it had no effect, this is the cfg I'm using now anyway: // This file was tweaked on Jun 06, 2012 at 07:38 GMT using Bojote's automated FSX Tweaking & Tuning Service // November 7, 201213 yr Is it tearing line panning around Apillars look like they're flickering the ground has a wave effect while flying etc? Or jagged lines on instruments and taxi lines? Randy Swofford
November 7, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member Is it tearing line panning around Apillars look like they're flickering the ground has a wave effect while flying etc? Or jagged lines on instruments and taxi lines? Well yes I would call it kind of wave effect, when not moving they are not so obvious. With custom airports it gets worse further away, near my aircraft there isn't that much tearing with edges of taxiways & runways & buildings. Maybe this shows a bit what I mean: http://i45.tinypic.com/2cog4e1.png Instead of seeing solid white line on one of the instruments I see white and black repeating.
November 7, 201213 yr I'm using a similar setup with a 6990, but with an I7 990X at 4.7GHz. You can crank the resolution up a bit if your monitor can handle it. I use UsePools=0, Framerate limited internally at 22fps (I run 2560x1600 screen), but am running DX10 with the fixes (Not sure if that helps this issue, but more frame rate friendly for sure). Max_Async_Jobs at 2 (Not tried 3, but haven't found a need to), Max_Load=4096. A few things there to play with
November 7, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member Tried to apply those tweaks but unfortunately no effect.
November 7, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member Another example of what I see, this time runway: http://i49.tinypic.com/35dcdwy.png
November 7, 201213 yr try setting Affinity Mask to 252, I find if using hyper threading, it clears my stutters up. May not help yours, but that number should use cores 2,3, & 4 with hyper threading, leaving 1 for Windows. If no difference, can always change it back to 224 as in your list above. If anyone else has any suggestion, I haven't had this issue
November 7, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member Doesn't seem to help, I guess I have no other choice than live with this until it's time to upgrade my computer again. Anyway, thanks for trying to help me with this, I appreciate it.
November 7, 201213 yr Gents, FSX cannot use HyperThreading and should be turned off in BIOS, AffinityMask for a 4 core CPU should be 14, Displaydevice is listed twice. Delete: ForceFullScreenVSync=1 ForceVSync=1 They are listed twice Try: PoolSize=8388608 // 4MB Default 4194304 RejectThreshold=524288 //524288, 262144, 126976, 98304 Dave
November 7, 201213 yr Listed twice in mine as well, on 2 computers, seems to have no effect good or bad. With No hyper threading I get stutters , with hyper threading, I get no stutters, go figure.
November 7, 201213 yr With No hyper threading I get stutters , with hyper threading, I get no stutters, go figure. HyperThreading should not affect shudders, only 5-10C CPU temp. Bufferpools? AfinityMask? TBM? AA? Frame lock? A balanced system per Word Not Allowed"s Guide? Davr
November 7, 201213 yr Pretty well balanced, been using FSX a long time now. According to this article, hyper threading does make a small impact. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/377105-texture-loading-ssd-vs-hdd/ Also, under stress testing with the same clock (I use custom water cooling) I get 1-2 degrees cooler lol. so go figure that one aswell
November 9, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member Okay, I have solved at least part of this problem. What made this tearing or whatever it is called extremely annoying was that it didn't happen only when changing view, but all the time. So now I just randomly tried to find a solution and went & disabled movement effects from Ezdok and now as long as I don't turn my view I am not getting any flickering lines anymore like I got before, especially in cockpit this is really good improvement. Apparently those effects although they were not showing up for some reason were still active and caused flickering of gauges and such similar to one I get when when moving around. I think now with ezdok effects disabled I can live with this problem until I upgrade my system next time which will probably take this problem away.
November 9, 201213 yr Your snapshot that shows the runway edges tearing looks simply like normal antialiasing problems. I didn't see mention of using NVInspector and your AA settings. Vsync tearing should be an area from left to right a few pixels wide from top to bottom where you have a mixture of the last graphics frame mixed with the current one and its effect depends on frame rate. PC=9700K@5Ghz+RTX2070 VR=HP Reverb| Software = Windows 10 | Flight SIms = P3D, CAP2, DCS World, IL-2, Aerofly FS2
November 9, 201213 yr Author Commercial Member Yeah I think you might be right actually, I haven't had this kind of problems before so I thought it's something else than anti-aliasing. But now I got to wonder how to get my anti-aliasing working if that's the problem. I have AA set to highest in FSX settings. Does Nvidia inspector work with ATI card too, I have always thought that its only for computers with Nvidia?
