November 11, 201213 yr 1.365 does not seem very high for OC. Perhaps because its a different chip it has a lower limit but my i2500K is very comfortable at 1.40. Same here. My I5-2500k is stable at 4,5 GHz with 1,34v. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
November 11, 201213 yr Although I joined AVSIM some years back I have only been actively perusing the forums seriously for the last few months. I am working my way closer to retirement and am hoping to get more seriously into flight simming. However, I also like playing Rise of Flight and Digital Combat plus games like Crisis, World of Warcraft, Eve Online etc. I also hope to digitize the family photo collection, going back 40 years, as well as finally getting the various video files into a more modern format. Thus my machine will not be solely for Flight Simming but my Games Machine. I think I have finally got my family to consider buying me a GTX 680 for Christmas instead of the usual shirts and tie. They get expensive presents and I get the shirt. I wised up to that 2 years ago and now I make sure my daughter knows what I really want. Now the purpose of all this is that it is time for my new computer. I want to get an Ivy Bridge i7 K series chip and hope to be able to overclock to at least 4.6 Ghz - I don't mind if it uses an air or a sealed water cooler. The problem is I haven't the slightest clue about overclocking. I am reading the above and unfortunately to me it is a different language. This is one of the reason I have been basically reading as much as I can on the forums. Can someone suggest a site for a complete noob like me to learn how to overclock - even better with videos? I live in a small town and otherwise have to rely on Dell type computers for best speed. Reading what you guys do it seems I should be able to try it myself - I hope!!! Leo.
November 11, 201213 yr Hasse - Say what you will but 1.4 is safe for IB. Many at Overclokers.com and XtremeSystems are running 1.46 at 5GHz stable and with low temps (I believe these are de-lidded). Here is one example guide (ASUS Board). http://www.overclock.net/t/1291703/ivy-bridge-overclocking-guide-asus-motherboards Mark CYYZ
