  1. I am going to guess that is Aldergrove international airport rather than down-town George Best or Belfast City Airport. I would love to have seen a video of that flight reminding me of home after more years than I care to remember being away.
  2. Possible answer to Time Frame from an article I recently read. Unfortunately, looks like means a new monitor. I have not seen anything to suggest will be incorporated in a video card but then that would mean a new video card: G-Sync technology amping up PC gamingASUS announced yesterday that it will, going forward for its next generation of monitors, be adopting Nvidia G-Sync technology. It's another development hot off the presses to come from Nvidia's The Way It's Meant to Be Played event, which we featured a couple days ago. G-Sync tech synchronizes the monitor's refresh rate to the GPU's render rate, so you see images as soon as they're rendered. This means a world of sharper images for gamers, less latency and stuttering, and a smoother experience overall. It renders older tech such as V-Sync obsolete, decreasing latency and eliminating tearing. ASUS will be releasing a G-Sync line of monitors starting in 2014. The VG248QE gaming monitor will be the first of the line, priced at $399 USD in North America. If you're looking for some new tech to give you an edge when it comes to gaming, you might want to consider this monitor for your next purchase, as it looks to change gaming performance significantly. 3. In recent forum topics, one in particular where two developers came on board, the issue of a file not being allowed by an anti-viral program causing a program either not to run or only parts of it run was brought up. Similarly, the instructions for several add on programs advise an anti-viral program be turned of whilst the program is being downloaded. Thus, my question is not what anti-viral program to use but whether there is less of a chance of a corrupted program resulting from something like a lost file by downloading the zip file with the anti-viral program active and then turning the anti-virus program off whilst the file was being unzipped. Would this solve any potential chance of picking up a virus, key-logger program or other such malware?
  4. Being a medical professional I have to be absolutely stringent about the risk of a virus getting on my machine.Unfortunately, it is a multi-use rather than a FSX only machine, at this time. Because of that we are forbidden to run our Medical Record Programs on a machine which is not always running an anti-viral program and a strong firewall. Hence my question.
  5. I have read about how various programs can get corrupted by a running anti-viral program whilst being downloaded because the anti-viral thought it was a virus. However, I would never want to download something without an anti-virus program running. Is it possible to down load a Zip program file then close the anti-viral program and unzip the add on file hopefully not causing any corruption? If not, how do others handle this issue? Leo.
  6. P.S. Paul, what happened to your Canuk address? Just noticed the change. Have you moved to warmer climes? Leo. Correction Canuck address. Leo.
  7. After such a long period of silence I came across this information on simflight.com tonight. I hope it does mean something might still fly after such a long absence. Wanted : Computer Pilot Magazine SEBASTIEN, TUESDAY, 29 JANUARY 2013 @ 1:15 I wish I could verify that no news mean good news. But I’ve not found any public communication towardsComputer Pilot fans on their website or Facebooksince the end of November. Well, to be true, in December, we’ve seen an iPad app released. Good. But the January / February issue was due for release this month and today is January 29th. What remains positive at least, is that Maui Artwork who purchased the press magazine is still active and publishes their German language Flight! Magazine on a regular basis. Maybe I’ll create a no-content news subcategory about them, NLS A380 and Airliner XP… Leo.
  8. A lot of work and much appreciated particularly since the information is scattered throughout so many posts.
  9. DCS World, ROF, FSX and Orbyx, P3D, X-Plane 10. Help, there are only so many hours in the day. I want to try them all.
  10. Rohit: I have no specific motherboard in mind other than it hopefully will be easily overclocked by the likes of myself. I am fortunate not be on a tight budget as I want this machine to last for several years. I think you generally have to pay for quality. Regards, Leo
  11. Although I joined AVSIM some years back I have only been actively perusing the forums seriously for the last few months. I am working my way closer to retirement and am hoping to get more into flight simming. However, I also like playing Rise of Flight and Digital Combat plus games like The Elder Scrolls, Borderlands 2, World of Warcraft, Eve Online etc. I also hope to digitize the family photo collection, going back 40 years, as well as finally getting the various family video files into a more modern format. Thus my machine will not be solely for Flight Sim use but my Games Machine. I think I have finally got my family to consider buying me a GTX 680 for Christmas instead of the usual shirts and tie. They get expensive presents and I get the shirt. I clued into that 2 years ago and now I make sure my daughter knows what I really want. Now the purpose of all this is that it is time for my new computer. I want to get an Ivy Bridge i7 K series chip and hope to be able to overclock to at least 4.6 Ghz - I don't mind if it uses an air or a sealed water cooler - so that I can run FSX or P3D and X-Plane well. The problem is I haven't the slightest clue about overclocking. I have read various threads. Unfortunately being so new to the topic most of the terminology is like trying to understand a different language. Can someone suggest a site for a complete noob like me to learn how to overclock - even better with videos? I live in a small town and otherwise have to rely on something like a Dell type computers for best speed. This time I am going to try to build a machine from scratch. Reading what you guys do it seems I should be able to try it myself - I hope!!! Leo

  13. Monty Python reborn. The "dead parrot" is still alive.
  14. To RCITGuy. My point was not to run all 3 programs at once or have them running constantly on onces computer but if a person did not have an anti viral program they can go onto the Symantec or McAfee site and have a free assessment of their computer done without downloading the actual program and then try something like Malware bytes. There are other programs as well which I didn't mention. These were just a representation. This was only a suggestion and not necessarily the worse thing a person can do because the programs are not resident on ones computer.
  15. I hope you have a really good anti virus system. You may have to try several different types. Symantec and McAfee have free programs to check your computer. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is good as well. Good idea to run all 3.
  16. I love watching these videos when relaxing at night. For a first video that ranks among the best quality videos. I hope there are more coming.
  17. Be very careful using reg cleaners unless you know what you are doing. Twice over the years I have had to re-install windows after files I didn't realize were important were removed. When faced with multiple files which are supposed to be duplicates or orphans, it is easy after a while to stop checking each individual file and check the box allowing all the rest of the files to be removed at once and then find out too late that was a big mistake. I still like CCleaner for removing installed programs but be very careful when using the reg cleaner unless you are absolutely certain it is safe to remove the suggested file(s).
  18. Some suggestions: ForeFlight: B737 MRG; FS Follow: FS Kneeboard2; RadioStackX. Descent Calc. Final Fuel. MyE6B or Sporty's E6B: Tap Check. You can also consider PilotFAR-AIM, PilotHandbk, AF Hndbk. IF Hndbk - instrument flying for reference purposes. RNS to learn navigation. Similarly IFR Flying. For fun: X-Plane trainer and Infinite Flight. Airport Mania 1 and 2.
  19. When you downloaded the Nvidia drivers did you delete the old ones first? This happened to me once and was solved by doing a new driver install with old drivers having been completely removed first. The Nvidia install process has an advanced setting which will remove the old drivers first. Other issues can be an anti-viral program running or the major issue of an actual virus infection being present on your system.
  20. I have Flight-Sim Navigation and Glass Simming Garmin 1000. He is a very good writer. Books are well written. Particularly for the Glass Simming book I would prefer color plates. His books are B&W only and in a spiral bound format. It would be nice if he would have PDF versions with everything in color which would be nice to read on my iPad. However, subject matter is the meat and potatoes and is well done.
  21. On a lighter note, I wonder how many people know what Poguemahone means on MindYourBeak's icon?
