McPhat Studios Website has been hacked?

Featured Replies

Has anyone seen what I saw: when I browse to McPhat Studios, I have numerous links at the top of the page advertising viagra etc. I did not see any of this when visiting other sites.

I hope you have a really good anti virus system. You may have to try several different types. Symantec and McAfee have free programs to check your computer. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is good as well. Good idea to run all 3.

Didn't see any there when I tried it now, though on the other hand I have adblock running which automatically blocks almost all ads out there. I do also have paid version of Malwarebytes Anti Malware and it didn't give me a warning like it sometimes does.

Yeah I would recommend you to scan your computer, maybe you have some adware installed on it.

I didn't see any when I tried now, either ...

Sounds like a browser hijack!

Like the others have said,do a scan for malware/spyware with MBAM.

Use Firefox as your preffered browser, with the Adblock plus and No Script plugins.

What I don't understand, is why when someone reports a site may have been hacked, others go and try it themselves and risk getting infected themselves, if the site had in fact been hacked?

Thanks

I use Chrome on a Macbook Air. Chrome comes up with a warning when sites are sketchy, and I'm very careful not to download anything or agree to anything being installed, so I'm pretty confident my browser won't get hacked. Hasn't happened yet ...

I have anti virus and malware running and adware blocker. That was the first thing I did, scan my computer and found nothing. Just checked again and now the site is ok, so someone probably noticed and fixed it. Again my original post stated that all other sites are fine. If my browser has been compromised, I would seen the same problem elsewhere. It was a warning post, as I would not want to go and muck around with a site that looked like it has been hacked.

I use a program called "sandboxie" (http://www.sandboxie.com/) which can put your browser or any other program into a sandbox protecting your computer against anything nasty. It is payware to register but it is a very useful program.

If you think a website has been hacked or serves up malware, using sandboxie when visiting that site stops you from getting infected.

Of course it's better not to visit those sites but sometimes even the safest sites fall down to nasties unfortunately.

Those type of links and ads are based on your browsing activity and habits. LOL

Ah sandboxie, that sounds like really useful tool while doing some internet adventures.

Hey, that type of comment is distasteful and is certainly not appreciated. I have virus and scanner on and was posting as a warning to others. I can assure you that this hack attack was real and at the time that I saw it was only coming from McPhat Studios Website. Based on the kind of responses, I can assure you that I will not post a warning the next time.

******* Christ, talk about not having a sense of humor. Do you guys really take these things that serious? Did that silly joke really ruin your Sunday? AVSIM by far has the most sensitive members I have ever run in to since my Compuserve days. Just wow.
