So, What Happened to AVSIM?
Many thanks to Tom and the AVSIM team for working hard to get the site back online again. As someone who works in keeping many servers running I can imagine the headaches you've been through. As to people who suggest using cloud services I've lost count as to the number of times there have been outages by cloud providers (especially Amazon), lol . Tom, you're doing a great job and have done a great job over the years considering the service is free to all of us. Thanks again!

Day 2 - I'm a believer!
Thanks Jeroen for this thread. I was happy with P3D 2 anyway but turning off FXAA and turning on MSAA (8x) has improved my performance and the visual look. Because my FPS went up I wasn't "afraid" to turn up my Autogen settings from "Normal" to "Very Dense", and still get a decent framerate (steady 30FPS around San Francisco) something I have never been able to do with FSX .

An End To The Blurries (and autogen popping)
Try disabling hyperthreading (in the bios) and see if that makes a difference. I have hyperthreading disabled and I get up to 100% usage on the last 3 cores - the first core is reserved for the OS. I haven't had to set the affinitymask setting as this is done automatically by P3D.

Reset Zoom Issue?
Thanks for your reply. Also (stupid me) I realised I hadn't set WideViewAspect to true which can also be set within the graphics options in P3D - no need to edit the Prepar3D.cfg file. All ok now.

Reset Zoom Issue?
I seem to have an issue with the reset zoom key (default = backspace) in P3D 2 where instead of resetting the zoom back to the camera default it is setting it to 1.0x. Looking at the Event description for the controls configuration in both FSX and P3D 2 it does say "View - Set to Default - 1x" but in FSX Backspace has always reset the zoom back to the camera default of 0.7x. So the question is, should pressing Backspace reset zoom back to the camera default of 0.7x or should it set it to 1x? If it is supposed to be the camera default of 0.7x does anyone get the issue where that doesn't happen and zoom gets set to 1x? Before I raise it as a bug over at Lockheed Martin I just wanted to make sure it was really a bug and what I am expecting is what is supposed to happen. Thanks, Martin

Question about the download files
Ahh sorry. You can install on more than one computer if you have bought the licences for all computers as I believe the licence only allows you to activate on one computer at a time. In fact you can install on any number of computers but then only activate on as many as you have a licence for as the activation only takes place when you run the program (hopefully that makes sense). Also, if you activate on more computers than you have licenses for LM will most likely revoke your licence obviously.

Question about the download files
It would only be a problem if LM included over-zealous, customer un-friendly DRM, which they haven't
- How about Startup Screen in Prepar3D v2.0?

Question about the download files
Hi, 1. There doesn't appear to be a limit to how often you can download the files - both time and amount. 2. Yes, you can download the files on any computer and then install on a different computer (obviously you can only install on one computer). You will need your logon details for their website to download. ~ Martin

A Reality Check?
What I'm excited about is that the changes LM have made to move the graphics workload from the CPU to the GPU (where it belongs) will (hopefully) free up the CPU to do more simulation work (AI, ATC, Flight Dynamics, Weather etc.) in future versions. With FSX and P3D 1.x the CPU not only had to deal with all the simulation work but also the graphics rendering. If P3D 2.0 had just been about improving ATC and the Flight Dynamics etc. then I believe we would have had a dramatic drop in FPS. I also believe that if LM had decided to improve on the ATC, Simulation and Weather code in addition to the graphics changes for version 2.0 then we would still be waiting for its release 1-2 years from now. With the moving of graphics rendering to the GPU and the multi-threading support think of P3D 2.0 as a necessary foundation for future enhancements/features which is something we can look forward to .

Weird request: a blimp, and a Star Trek Enterprise
I usually go to Simviation - http://simviation.com - for alternative types of crafts - air, land or sea. Try there.

ORBX World is here!
Personally I am excited about Orbx World and will be putting money aside to buy it the moment it comes out. Although I predominately fly within Orbx regions I do sometimes fly in many different parts of the world and always find the experience jarring due to the "Global Warming" desert type textures that come as default in FSX. Often, whenever I am reading a book or watching a TV programme, Film or YouTube video, where flying is featured, I like to go and fly in the same area within FSX. Usually those areas fall outside the regions that Orbx (and other developers) have produced so far. Even though Orbx World won't be to the same high detail as their normal add-on regions it will be better than FSX default and my enjoyment of flying in different parts of the world will improve. I am also looking forward to the simple single installation and the global coverage provided by this product in addition to it being designed for Prepar3D as well as FSX.

We are all OK!
One thing we should all know by now... that release dates (in this case the end of the world) are always delayed due to some unforeseen reason and therefore late, so don't relax just yet . Enjoy... and we're not envious one bit... ok, yes we are.. well I am anyway . Have a good Christmas to everyone that survived the "end".

Thanks for OpusFSX
After trying out the demo a few days ago I purchased OpusFSX and I am extremely happy with it. The software has really enhanced my enjoyment of weather within FSX so I thought I would come here and write a thank you to the developers for OpusFSX. There are many features I like about OpusFSX but the one that really sticks out for me, apart from the great weather, is how quickly the program starts up and inserts weather into a flight. No more waiting round . In addition I am impressed with the service and support provided by the developers - Cheryl and Stephen. If one looks at postings here and in the Flight1 forums you can see they are always quick to help out people in trouble. I also like and welcome the regular updates to the software which highlights the passion the developers have for this program. So, another happy OpusFSX user added to the list. Thanks again Cheryl and Stephen for OpusFSX! Disclaimer: This posting is my own doing without any payment or solicitation from Opus Software. Instead the only money transaction was from me sending them money to purchase the product :LMAO:.

OPUSFSX : Stay away?
This thread reminded me to try out OpusFSX and see what it's like after seeing lots of positive comments. After trying out the demo for about an hour (restarting every 10 minutes) I decided to buy it. I really like the program and I think it does dramatically add to FSX. A good purchase! Flying round the New York area in FSX is fun at the moment .

So how many of us are in the path of the storm?
Stay safe and all the best to everyone in the path of this hurricane. This one does look very nasty and unfortunately it doesn't look like it's going to ease up :(.

McPhat Studios Website has been hacked?
I use a program called "sandboxie" (http://www.sandboxie.com/) which can put your browser or any other program into a sandbox protecting your computer against anything nasty. It is payware to register but it is a very useful program. If you think a website has been hacked or serves up malware, using sandboxie when visiting that site stops you from getting infected. Of course it's better not to visit those sites but sometimes even the safest sites fall down to nasties unfortunately.

Cheapest B747 Flight into or out of UK ?
What you could try is going to http://www.flightradar24.com/ and filter for an aircraft type of B74 (for all 747s) and optionally airports in the UK and watch all 747s coming and out of the UK. It may take a while to find a suitable flight but in the meantime it's interesting to watch .

What's your Favorite "Legacy" Addon?
I would say Aerosoft's Beaver and Twin Otter. I still enjoy flying these "legacy" aircraft.

Tapatalk, who cares?
Don't worry, in a few years time a patent troll will put a stop to that "feature" after suing everyone that uses it. - Sent from the future.

It'sa tough life being a Pilot!
That was hilarious (all 3 parts). Thanks for posting. I love how at 8:50 secs the printout says Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 .

Laminar Research, Creators of X-Plane, Are Being Sued for Patent Infringement
This lawsuit is despicable and I will definitely be supporting Laminar Research. Last year I was teaching myself iOS programming and then a patent troll came out and sued some iOS developers for something really simple. Even though I am still playing round with iOS development it put me off in writing and selling an application as I don't have the money to protect myself against trolls. Software patents are definitely a hindrance to innovation and the IT industry. I wish the world would wake up and realise that. *sigh*

Plane passengers scream in terror as winds hit capital
They look like some of my landings on a calm day. :LMAO:
-
They better turn the bad luck off soon...
But even if the pilot was incapacitated, the plane was damaged, disaster was looming and a flight simmer with PMDG NGX experience offered to assist in landing the plane, I'm sure Ryanair would still charge the flight simmer £150 to enter the cockpit, £100 to sit in the pilot's seat (or £90 to sit in the co-pilot's), £60 to operate the controls and £50 to land the aircraft. :LMAO:
