Wow looks awesome.

$190 though? Ouch

ORBX listens! I've been asking about this many times on the ORBX forums, and now it is here. ORBX scenery enchancment that covers the entire planet!

Wow, this is some serious project. If it becomes a reality, I will be one of the first to acquire it.

Interesting - I gulped at the price at first, but then again if we are talking about the whole world.....

I wonder how this will interact with those areas already covered, Austrailia, New Zealand, PNW, England (and any future plans for Eurpean areas). Will they continue to develop these sort of specialyl detailed areas on top of this ?

Edit - just headed over to the ORBX forum where there's a bit more detail.

To me this is like getting FSX SP3, so it is worth it. Just look at what Flight1 charges for the GEX series! UTX+ORBX is going to make my FSX look mighty fine in 2013!

Also I'd like to add what a gift this is to the freeware scenery community. Imagine the possibilities for freeware creation with ORBX textures and autogen, constantly being upgraded and enhanced!

It is to be a happy new year indeed, since none of the ORBX regions in the works holds any interest to me.

Yes they will! So we get ORBX Light for the world, and ORBX on steroids for those specific regions, 5 of which are being released in 2013!

I'm interested. This would replace GEX correct?

As for the price ill research and see the cost of Covering the globe with similar software. I'm thinking 190 is cheaper than our options now.

I would love to see it interact correctly with their regions while everything is activated. As it stands I cannot fly from NZ to Australia without having one of the sceneries deactivated otherwise there are issues with terrain and autogen.

Yeah I guess thinking about it if we did the same thing with other products for say 3 continents in fsx it would be $190 or more.

This is not an FTX region. It is an hassle free make over of the default FSX graphics covering the entire planet in one go. No need to activate regions.

no doubt the specialty areas will continue. The broader the product offering, the broader the customer base. Thousands would buy the specialty scenery areas .... considerably less for the 190$ global package.

Expensive hobby we have, but Orbx quality for the whole world...I know I'll bite.

Quoting John Venema:

In 2013 we will be releasing a FTX product that covers the entire world with FTX textures combined from the twelve different regions we have developed since 2008 including England and Wales. It won't be a perfect solution because it is textures only (no landclass, airports, POIs, or geodata), but it will cover the whole globe with Orbx so you never have to experience FSX default again.

It will include custom autogen, 3D lights and some custom trees as well, which will need an installer that manages some global files, but you will be able to uninstall it and revert to default FSX again if you wish.

I am testing an alpha build at the moment and I can promise you most of the places mentioned in this thread look beautiful covered in Orbx textures. I did a dusk flight over the south of France last week and to see all the 3D lights twinkling over villages and towns was magical

The price of this product (less than $200) will include free perpetual upgrades including a constant flow of upgraded airports at key locations around the world, for example Helsinki in Finland or Manila in the Phillipines. We are building a dedicated team of people who will do nothing but work on continual improvements, POIs and airports around the world. Additionally, as Orbx releases the much more detailed and sophisticated regions around the world, we will dip into the expanding texture pool to finesse the global product, all at no charge.

Stay tuned for the formal announcement in January along with many screenshots and some video footage.

If you can imagine your whole world covered in Orbx, you won't have to wait too much longer

I'll be happy to look seriously at this. As I've said elsewhere, I like flying in my local area, so I don't get as much use as I'd like out of ORBX regions. This could be a very good solution. As they get closer to release, I'll be interested to here more about what current add-ons it might replace, and how it will interact with the ones that remain. Looking forward to more updates.

Except for these two paragraphs, that entire post was in a graphic in the original link. I was thinking there would be more info on the ORBX forum.
