December 29, 201213 yr I don't know...the price seems fine for me. Updates will roll through and improve with time. And the vastness of this project shouldn't be underestimated. It will most certainly be refreshing to say goodbye to ms scenery and textures once and for all. And I was never a big fan of UTX and GEX unpolished and dated graphics. Those were good in its day, I suppose. So Orbx, bring it on! I would really enjoy special attention to the Caribbean please! December 29, 201213 yr If I am guessing right UTX would be almost useless with this new global product, the only thing left to use in UTX would be landclass as far as I can tell especially due to the orbx 3d light option could get dicey this mix. Yes one less program loaded in fsx all the better. Rich Sennett
December 29, 201213 yr Makes me wonder if they'll ever resolve the weirdness flying from FTX England to other parts of Europe or Africa. Otherwise the answer might just be "buy our $195 package and problem solved!" I've bought a lot of Orbx stuff but after FTX England I've adopted more of a watchful waiting approach.
December 29, 201213 yr Realistically I won't buy it. I rarely fly other parts of the world... yes I'm a USA Snob ^_^ But won't it cover the US outside the ORBX regions? Midwest and Mid-Atlantic and Florida and such? Or am I confused about that? Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery
December 29, 201213 yr Very exited about this as well. Time to shake out some change from the cushions... ^_^ Not really interested. I thought GEX/UTX looked like a jumbled jigsaw puzzle (Or worse, depending on what land class product you were using) and this gives me the exact same vibe. We are all connected..... December 29, 201213 yr I would love to see it interact correctly with their regions while everything is activated. As it stands I cannot fly from NZ to Australia without having one of the sceneries deactivated otherwise there are issues with terrain and autogen Must be something wrong with your install then. NZ and Australia is in the same Orbx region called Oceania so there should not be any need for swapping. Have NZ and AU and have no problems with it.

December 29, 201213 yr I think GEX/UTX look better then the default FSX, but today the graphics and textures are starting to show their age. To see Orbx step in and update everything is completely refreshing. Custom autogen and 3D lights are the icing. I plan on purchasing for sure. People love pouring money into their hobby if it makes them happy and this definitely will for me. Sent from my iPhone...typing errors imminent AJ Pongress
December 29, 201213 yr I am super excited about ORBX Global and the expected release is a great incentive for me to sell my book heavily on amazon now (A Rogue's Guide to Acquisition) to cover up the $190 bill. Yes, this will be probably be one of my most expensive addon for my FSX/P3D setup - but after seeing PNW with default FSX scenery - it is a omg moment. The question is do I need to buy CRM/NRM/Fjords etc or be happy with Orbx Global scenery. Decisions and Decisions..... Awesome news nonetheless FSX/P3D is an expensive hobby (I have already spend quite a bit on Carenado Planes during their Christmas Sale)...heh How I Evaluate Third Party Sim Addon Developers Refined P3Dv5.0 HF2 Settings Part1 (has MaddogX) and older thread Part 2 (has PMDG 747)
December 29, 201213 yr I understand that the new product will not include landclasses nor geodata (shorelines, roads ?) . It will then not be redundant with UTX. It will only be in competition with GEX or similar texture only package. As the mesh market is pretty much covered now, we will have to have a closer look to old global LC packages like Scenery Tech or Cloud 9's to complement FTX Globe. December 29, 201213 yr Author Holy cow! Do people know how to read? The confusion over what this product does and doesn't is just amazing... ORBX World is simply an upgrade of the default graphics in FSX to make it look a tad more realistic and get rid of the desert like textures that covers most of the FSX world, and improve the look of some of the autogen. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
December 29, 201213 yr Geoff, I just have a completely different perspective than you. To me ORBX World is HIGHER quality. How on earth could you not think ORBX textures are much better than the default FSX ones? Add Ultimate Terrain, FS Genesis or FS Global Mesh and you'll have the best FSX WORLD scenery in history. ORBX World is (among other things) replacing the most awful thing in FSX, the dreadful landscape textures. To me this is the best and most important FSX upgrade EVER! It is the one upgrade I've been wanting above all others since getting FSX in october 2006. If I were to install just one addon, this would be it. The rest of FSX is pretty OK. Me too, and why should he be afraid... You need to re-read my post a little more carefully! That's NOT what I said. Further more, if you bother to read it, I gave several reasons why I thought this was a change of direction for FTX and pointed to the existing stuff you have mentioned that was previously mentioned by others in the thread. Did you actually read that I have ALL the FTX area coverage and a good few NA airfields too. I'm not trying to rain on anyones parade here. Just suggesting you consider the wider and full implications of this proposal. Geoff Geoff Brown

I don't see the same implications that you see, sorry... The detailed sceneries are going to continue as before, so I don't understand what you worry about? Personally I couldn't care less about the detailed FTX areas, since I don't fly those places, or any of the future places in the works by ORBX. December 29, 201213 yr "..........The price tag just seems a bit steep for me.... " Your concern might be monetary in nature .. but, I bet its more psychological in nature. if you bought 5 regional areas at $35/area (over time)... most FlightSim hobbyist will send and have spent that amount of our hobby,.. most would walk away feeling money well spent for addons that enhanced the Flightsim world. Yet, the single outlay of $190 seems steep ....
December 29, 201213 yr Your concern might be monetary in nature .. but, I bet its more psychological in nature. if you bought 5 regional areas at $35/area (over time)... most FlightSim hobbyist will send and have spent that amount of our hobby,.. most would walk away feeling money well spent for addons that enhanced the Flightsim world. Yet, the single outlay of $190 seems steep .... I think you're right as far as the psychology on the expenditure but the difference is in the detail? If the regions are adjacent, as FTX regions have been so far, then the total (albeit bought piece at a time) cost would actually get you a much higher detailed area (FTX's words) that's still thousands of square miles, with hours and hours of potential flying at all flight levels and speeds. Simmerhead says he doesn't care about the detailed regions because he doesn't fly there, and yet there are numerous scenery add-ons of varying types for many specific areas already. FTX aren't the only folk doing them. Even the existing "Global" meshes and textures are a huge step up on FSX default. The reality is that until we see what FTX come up with in total, because IMO a few pretty screenshots don't make a package as we've seen before, and can compare that with existing sceneries we can't really judge it's value for money. After all if you've got a decent car and someone brings out a new one that has some extra features do you rush to the new car dealership and buy a new car and scrap the other one? Remember with most software that's your choice because you can actually SELL your old car. Well you might if you've more money than sense  ? As I mentioned before on these forums comparative reviews seem to be getting rarer than hens teeth nowadays but there have been plenty on scenery, meshes and AI packages in the past so lets hope we can get an objective review when it's released?
