What does FTX Global include?

  • Complete replacement of FSX ground textures
  • Custom autogen houses and objects
  • 3D lights with FTX Day/Night Mode support
  • Selection of custom trees
  • Replaces default FSX so you can run with FTX Central set to EU, NA etc
  • Can be uninstalled so you can revert to default FSX
  • Some custom landclass in sample areas initially (can be disabled if desired)
  • Perpetual free updates (textures, landclass tweaks, POI objects, upgraded default airports)
  • Dedicated staff working on upgrades full-time

What does FTX Global NOT include?

  • Geographical and vector data (roads, rivers, coastlines, elevation mesh)
  • Full hand-crafted landclass and polygon landclass
  • Unique ground textures native to the area you're flying in
  • Upgraded airports everywhere
  • Traffic on all major roads (only default FSX traffic)
  • Extensive custom modelled POIs like power stations, windfarms, stadiums, photoreal areas etc

Looks a lot less repetitive than GEX and default FSX... Would be good to get a shot from a higher though elevation as that's where the "moire" effect is most visible. [Edit]Iims8.jpg

The moire effect will always be there as the FSX terrin engine limits the number of texture within each landclass, so unless you can use a lot of different landclasses within an erea, it will become repetitive. It can't be solved I'm afraid.

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

Looks really nice, however, I'm going to wait until this gets released and people start reviewing it.

Bloomin Eck Dylan what are you flying? A U2 or an X15? :LMAO:

Sounds interesting, will have to see how it works out. Im sure all JV's best mates will be all over it though, even if its not as good as it could of been.

I have to say that the "Showroom" screengrabs look OK and the "Will Have's" is a fair list.

The "Will NOT Have" list raises a few questions though? Particularly where it interacts with higher detail regions and the suggestion that these will continue? For instance the Higher detail regions DO have a mesh so if this doesn't how will that work? Will it just sit on any existing mesh you have installed?

Until FTX ENG there was a good interface between FTX stuff and other add-ons? Correct me if that's not your experience! For instnace Tongass Fjords, being by folk who now work with FTX, blends perfectly. In FTX ENG (despite other issues) it's seemless with my current "Global" cover. However there are a lot of quite expensive "regional" sceneries out there that others will have. If they have any interest in this it must work with them?

The full Time development team means we'll be paying for something and that's fine. It's fine if they improve their customer feedback response. As has been mentioned in other current threads the best developers embrace feedback and criticism whilst keeping customers informed of problems, successes and developments on upgrades and updates. Banning folk from your forum is not how a mature organisation should respond. As Dale Carnegie put it "Don't think for a moment you've won the argument merely because you've silenced your opponent"

That BTW is from his book "How to win friends and influence people" ^_^

Er... if I see what it does and doesn't contain then all you get is new textures and autogen...? Seriously? For AUS 185 dollars...? I love (some of the) FTX regions but what's the fun if it all without landclass and vectordata and the upgraded airports? All it does is replace the default textures with other default textures using the same crap landclass (yes, you can of course purchase other landclass...)? Did everyone actually read that list and notice how little it actually offers?

Luckily it also comes with the unique option (they must have been working hard on that one) called 'Can be uninstalled so you can revert to default FSX'. Seriously though, this looks like a a bunch of repackaged textures and for that 196 dollars (even AUD) seems a bit too much, isn't it?

This may be exciting news -- only time will tell. Looks primarily another option for worldwide textures.

First let me say that the orbx textures are wonderful, a first class upgrade over GEX. But the problem lies with the blending of the textures where one texture block meets another. I have done some screen print comparisons in the past, and GEX seems to do a much better job of blending (transitioning) the textures. You don't have the harsh jump from one texture block to another that you do in orbx.

This said, I just wonder if there is anything the orbx can do to better blend their textures? If so, there is no reason why I wouldn't pony up $190 for the worldwide product.

There is more than one way to skin a cat....

Wait, they're actually advertising this as a feature?

I'm beginning to think this product won't offer as much as they claim and they're sugaring up the features list, like the statement above.

Uninstalling something isn't a feature. It's a standard procedure.

It would appear that this announcement has caused a great deal of confusion among some.

What's more I'm quite surprised so many apparently don't know the difference between textures, landclass, autogen, mesh and vector objects.

Now if I'm not mistaken this product will contain textures and autogen, as well as 3D lights. It will use your existing landclass, mesh and vector objects. You're not going to get Orbx level scenery for the entire world, just Orbx textures and autogen objects that will be placed just as your existing landclass files calls for them.

On the face of it they're asking a lot just for textures and autogen, but then again it does cover the entire world and add up how much all the GEX products cost and they currently don't cover the entire world.

Hmmm. If I've got the cash to burn when it's released I'll probably give it a go,

Cool to see another Dale Carnegie advocate.. A favorite quote of mine is "The best way to avoid an argument is to avoid it like the plague." Best program I ever took in my jaded career. Cheers jja
