December 29, 201213 yr I'm surprised that many are looking at the price as a primary consideration and NOT the past quality of the work. If you add up all the GEX Regions, how much is that? They don't cover the entire world and you need to purchase the lighting. As for reverting the textures, that's standard for this type of scenery replacement. I will never use the feature, but you never know who will. I'm very excited (I ACTUALLT WISH I HAD IT NOW!) and I'm looking forward to the new regions. ORBX has consistently demonstrated that their regions and airports are second to none and I will be ready to buy as soon as it's released. MSFS
December 29, 201213 yr Moderator Particularly where it interacts with higher detail regions and the suggestion that these will continue? For instance the Higher detail regions DO have a mesh so if this doesn't how will that work? Will it just sit on any existing mesh you have installed? As mentioned, its' primarily just default FSX texture replacement, custom autogen and lights. Has nothing to do with the mesh or anything like that and will display just like default FSX textures or GEX textures, regardless of the mesh. If you have an addon region, photoreal for an area, then those areas will sit above the ORBX textures. Very simple product and shouldn't be cause for worry about compatiblity with other addons since its just mainly texture replacement of the FSX default. December 29, 201213 yr Looks interesting, although for what it is, extremely expensive. Will have to see what the reviewers think of it before I would even consider it. I will say I have not got any of the FTX areas (using GEX/UTX instead), the only ORBX product I own is the Lancair, which was $ wasted imho... December 29, 201213 yr I'm surprised that many are looking at the price as a primary consideration and NOT the past quality of the work. If you add up all the GEX Regions, how much is that? With the discount coupons it looks to add up to about $175 for GEX and that is not including the Australia and Antarctica region yet to be released. In my opinion that is too high as well. - Aaron
December 29, 201213 yr With GEX you can pay for the regions you want to fly over, they are not trying to shove down your throat places you won't fly over.
December 29, 201213 yr Wow what a tread. Fortunately for me I understand how FSX works, calls textures, places vectors for creeks, coastlines, applies autogen etc. Therefore I don't have the questions like many are asking. Some folks are actually thinking it will interact with their already installed regions of Orbx....IT WON"T. These new textures sets will be placed in a lower priority than local and regional sceneries. All your existing local stuff will be just fine. Leave your UTX alone, it won't affected by the FTX global but your UTX will show as it does now and the creeks and shorelines will be controlled by UTX (unless you turn it off - but why would you?). Read JVs announcement of included and not included lists and think about it a bit. It should be a very good product but be aware Afghanistan will not look like it should along with several other countries. But personally $200 is a lot for me. I will save it to buy the five new detailed regions this year. Remember you will need to buy the detailed regions if your interested in those areas in detail othewise you will get generic textures. I also have freeware textures that do exactly as Orbx is planning to do. I posted about this earlier. If you have the knowledge of how FSX works you can do it yourself, if not wait for the ORBX GUI and there you go then. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
December 29, 201213 yr Author Yes it is expensive, but for what it says it does, reasonable. Here's the cost of the only comparable product (currently without world coverage): GEX North America $34,95 + GEX Africa Middle East $34,95 + GEX Europe $49,95 + GEX Tropics $34,95 = $154,8 GEX South America & Asia + GEX Australia & Antarctica is not yet released, so the total package will most likely cost mote than the ORBX offering. In addition GEX does nothing for autogen textures. Numerous posts in this thread show very limited knowledge of the work that goes into replacing the default textures. For many regions we're talking bout FIVE seasons worth of landclass textures. Add to that the replacement of autogen textures... But who cares. To each his own. I'm gonna buy and fly with a smile... December 29, 201213 yr Alain, Even if I'm only mildly interested in this new offering by Orbx, as I am under the impression they want to make me pay twice just for renaming textures I already have (I bought all their region packs), "shoving it down our throats" seems a bit extreme. No one forces you to buy their stuff. KInd regards Jean-Paul I7 8700K / Fractal Design Celsius S24 watercooling / ASRock Z370 Extreme4 motherboard / Corsair 32GB 3200mhz DDR4 / INNO3D iChiLL GeForce GTX 1080 Ti X3 / Samsung SSD 960 EVO M.2 PCIe NVMe 500GB / Seasonic-SSR-850FX power supply / Fractal Design Define R5 Black case / AOC Q3279VWF 32″ 2560x1440 monitor / Benq GL2450 24″ 1920x1080 monitor / Track-IR 4
December 29, 201213 yr I have GEX+UTX and that looks pretty good right now, knowing the quality FTX is known for, if they make it 15cm resolution vs the 2m resolution I have now, I will drop GEX for it in a heart beat. I hope it will be compatible with UTX or have its own equivalent of it. Just imagine in 5 years if development for FSX continues, a 2cm world resolution edit: I hope they release by region like North America, or by country.....

What I mean is that they could have separated the region like GEX and sell them piece by piece, buy doing what they are doing you don't have a choice and have to buy places you will probably never fly over and pay for it, like I said before, there is more than one way to skin a cat.
December 29, 201213 yr With GEX you can pay for the regions you want to fly over, they are not trying to shove down your throat places you won't fly over. and if "you" or "me" wants to fly in all the GEX Regions is gonnna cost you/me just as much. Devs are in business to earn a living or at least stay in business. I think that you will agree that it's easier to stay in business when you have a product or service that is in great demand by its core customers. MSFS

December 29, 201213 yr Author Yes, but I don't have them all, I only have the GEX I fly over., I just like to have the choice to buy only what I need..... And I prefer one package to save me the hassle of installing them one by one... Wish there were more global stuff like this... Problem with GEX is that they don't have good textures for the wilderness areas I fly over. Their rural textures are good though. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
December 29, 201213 yr Lotta dough. I wish they would consider selling by continent. Bob Officially retired
