December 29, 201213 yr All those screenshots show the countries looking too similar. Is there any shots of desert areas or hilly areas? This is where GEX has failed in the past and looks a bit strange especially the hills.
December 29, 201213 yr Moderator Except UTX landclass calls for its own custom textures. So Orbx would not work with UTX at all. And for the regions not covered by UTX it will still not look that good. Right now Ground Environment X does the same thing as Orbx wants to do, but for less than 190 Not true. The only custom ground textures it uses are the custom ground polys for golf courses, cemetary, race track, parking lots, etc. The landclass for cities, urban, forrest would stil be used by the replacement ORVX textures. You can still use the UTX polys with the ORBX package but it might not blend well. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 29, 201213 yr I think the product will fill a need and be successful, but in the end, its just another band-aid over the gaping wound of FSX's increasingly obvious age. It will satisfy for a while, then the flaws will be pointed out, and the fix(s) for those flaws, and then the race will be on again for the next big "thing" to help us limp forwards a bit longer until......... Until what, exactly? That's the real question this brings up for me. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. December 29, 201213 yr Author This is where GEX has failed in the past and looks a bit strange especially the hills. That is where ORBX has excelled, so hopefully those wonderful mountain and marsh/bog textures will be included. I think the blending is unproblematic. Neither UTX or ORBX has altered the standard blending algorithm of FSX. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

December 29, 201213 yr But won't it cover the US outside the ORBX regions? Midwest and Mid-Atlantic and Florida and such? Or am I confused about that? Yes but I've already got GEX + UTX USA for that. December 29, 201213 yr What about how much of a hit will it be on your computer? If any? Regards Lamar Wright
December 29, 201213 yr What about how much of a hit will it be on your computer? If any? Cant see why it should have any, in particular....... And some advantages if they fully replace the flawed Fsx autogen....... Though I wonder how that might affect some products designed to work specifically with original textures..... I would look forwards simply to seeing those horrible collapsed fsx roofs fixed, and hopefully some bad scaling corrected! We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... December 29, 201213 yr Lot of questions with this product. 1. How does it interact with UTX/FSG? UTX provides landclass files for urban areas and I have FSGenisis for US landclass. Will this work with current landclass products? 2. What will the performance be like with it? Orbx killed my system in Australia. I had to really crank down my sliders to prevent OOM errors. What will it be like flying the pmdg type stuff into a high end 3rd party airport with this? 3. What will need to be shut off in the UTX UI if we decide to install these textures? Hopefully Orbx will release a manual that describes what we need to do. Too bad they are not releasing updated landclass. FSG data is from 2007 and scenerytech's us from 2008. We need a new landclass product. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Eric
December 29, 201213 yr If any doubted the FUTURE of FSX, this kind of announcement from ORBX only makes it more clear: The future of the sim is bright, regardless of Microsoft's self-proclaimed alienation. With developers like ORBX and many others, our wonderful hobby of Flight Simulation will continue to thrive and only get better. We don't need the next version of Flight Simulator from MS; the community is alive, well, and growing. Thanks ORBX. Stan
December 29, 201213 yr Official announcment here http://www.orbxsyste...leased-in-2013/ Right off the bat I don't like this quote: NO ground textures native to the area you're flying in Rich Sennett

December 29, 201213 yr Yeah and I wonder if they will provide cactus in Arizona. Nope, neither of......
December 29, 201213 yr Not really interested. I thought GEX/UTX looked like a jumbled jigsaw puzzle (Or worse, depending on what land class product you were using) and this gives me the exact same vibe. Looks a lot less repetitive than GEX and default FSX... Would be good to get a shot from a higher though elevation as that's where the "moire" effect is most visible. [Edit]
