December 30, 201213 yr I don't actually think I'm very interested in this, Orbx PNW and NZ have gotten me spoiled as far as having accurate landclass and objects at the airports, so much so that I never seem to even fly Orbx AU anymore because of the barren airports... So paying $190 for textures that will cover parts of the world with barren airports is not likely to make me leave the Orbx areas I've come to love with the airport objects. I think this is the issue in a nutshell? Those of us who have and enjoy current High detail FTX regions are already "spoilt" for choice. IMHO the NA series is the best overall for variety, airport numbers and choice, enhancements like AI, airfields, strips and airports. Whilst like Simmerhead I'd like to see regions like South America with some high detailed areas this package won't give me that. I don't think the price is that unreasonable for what they're attempting. You just have to be realistic about the use YOU (as individuals) will get out of it? Personally i doubt it will entice me away from the current regions I fly in most. Unlike some posters I never say NEVER to any region, but I'm still more likely to try newer higher detailed stuff. I guess we'll have to see how good this gets with future development? Geoff Brown
December 30, 201213 yr Interesting, never had one (knock on wood I guess), will have to look it up  . Despite that issue some have, it really is too bad there isn't more performance headroom in FSX, especially with the quality of addons and the potential for more quality. They tend to only manifest in highly-detailed places like London with max scenery detail settings (including a higher LOD radius i.e. 6.5), a complex airliner, a decent amount of AI, weather and a scenery addon like OrbX that stuffs the hell out of the scene with autogen and other buildings. Usually flying into an area like that will give you a big ugly "the computer has run out of memory and this program needs to close" message or something similar. Very frustrating. As long as you don't try flying in the conditions I just mentioned you probably won't see this =).
December 30, 201213 yr ..... if they make it 15cm resolution vs the 2m resolution I have now, I will drop GEX for it in a heart beat... This is a texture replacement product, I'm fairly certain that it's not possible to replace the textures with higher resolution ones, they have to be exactly the same size and shape etc, it's just the artwork and autogen placed on the texture sheets that will be changed. Cheers, Andy.
December 30, 201213 yr So i suppose to really get your pennys worth out of this product you would have to be someone who flies all over different parts of the world and i wonder how many of us do this. Personally i stick to Aus with Orbx regions and Europe with GEX/UTX. Its the same with any airport add-ons i might get too. The cost is what it is but its still alot of cash if you only use say, 30% of the product. As previously mentioned I prefer GEX products being offered as seperate regions. Kind Regards Simon.

December 30, 201213 yr No Landclass, coastlines, etc, etc ...... just textures. Sorry but I would have bitten and bought ($200 is well out of by budget but I would have not eaten for a week if necessary ), if it included landclass and coastlines, but textures only?........ for $200 ?? Whole world or not, I have to say that I find this mighty expensive for a texture pack. I used to love Orbx but having had more and more problems with the "FTX Central" approach; clashes, FTX ENG corrupting the res of Europe etc, I do not think I would buy any more Orbx products (including FTX Global) until they ditch the awful "FTX Central", selecting 1 region at a time approach, and properly configure their sceneries to co-exist better with the rest of the FSX world. Sorry but for now (to quote the Dragons in the Dragon's Den), "I'm out".
December 30, 201213 yr The attractive part about this is that it might apparently be a single installation. I always found GEX/UTX installation a chore (despite the detailed instructions) and kind of dreaded having it as part of the re-installation routine when FSX became corrupted or needed to be installed again. I think you are wrong. Just as you can use higher res. textures for clouds and aircraft, you could use higher res. textures for autogen. It will cost performance though as the file size will be higher, which in turn leads to OOM problems etc... The attractive part about this is that it might apparently be a single installation. I always found GEX/UTX installation a chore (despite the detailed instructions) and kind of dreaded having it as part of the re-installation routine when FSX became corrupted or needed to be installed again. Couldn't agree more! The best addon I could think of would be the auto installer and updater for your entire addon collection. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
December 30, 201213 yr You may be right, but their are a myriad of other products that have been out before this and none of those use higher resolution textures than the default. I don't think it's as simple as just upping the resolution like with cloud textures etc. Saying that though maybe it's just a download size consideration, when you double the resolution you quadruple the file size if a remember correctly, without compression at least anyway. Yes any addition resolution of any type of texture will increase the likelyhood of getting an OOM error. Cheers, Andy.
December 30, 201213 yr This thread is worth the price of admission!! :LMAO: I don't even have the ORBX stuff that I own installed right now because I fly most of the time in the Eastern part and SE part of the US because that is where I live. Will I buy this global scenery. Don't know yet but probably. It is going to be years before ORBX gets to my part of the world. So it may be for me. But that is really another point. I have no connection to ORBX but I strongly suspect this scenery is much more airmed at the future release of PrePar3D in 2013. Most are betting that this will feature DX-11 and other performance improvements which will be something like FSX next. Please no legal talk or I hate LM! This I can say because it is right on the ORBX site: They do not care to hear that you will not buy it or it cost too much or why not just sell it in chunks. They have a marketing plan, and most important of all....It is what it is. December 30, 201213 yr Personally I am excited about Orbx World and will be putting money aside to buy it the moment it comes out. Although I predominately fly within Orbx regions I do sometimes fly in many different parts of the world and always find the experience jarring due to the "Global Warming" desert type textures that come as default in FSX. Often, whenever I am reading a book or watching a TV programme, Film or YouTube video, where flying is featured, I like to go and fly in the same area within FSX. Usually those areas fall outside the regions that Orbx (and other developers) have produced so far. Even though Orbx World won't be to the same high detail as their normal add-on regions it will be better than FSX default and my enjoyment of flying in different parts of the world will improve. I am also looking forward to the simple single installation and the global coverage provided by this product in addition to it being designed for Prepar3D as well as FSX. ~ Martin Smith
December 30, 201213 yr I just installed pnw demo to check out orbx. I have never purchased because I tend to fly tube liners on the us east coast as well as Hawaii for my va's. Question: With ftx central if I leave it on NA and fly outside the covered region don't the default textures created by orbx stay active ? (thus creating what global ftx is going to deliver) I am just looking at orbx now because the area I fly in will now be covered albeit with something less than the dedicated regions. Explanation for a novice please. (right now I have both GEX and UTX for the regions I fly in)
December 30, 201213 yr Author Question: With ftx central if I leave it on NA and fly outside the covered region don't the default textures created by orbx stay active ? No, ORBX textures will only show inside the demo area, unlike FTX Global which will cover everything since it replaces the default FSX textures. December 30, 201213 yr Now, listen up folks; If we have replacement textures for the stock ones, AND they look ORBX quality, sharper, more HIRES, then we will all be happy ? I sure would be!.
