November 17, 201213 yr I have two questions related to AI aircraft. 1. Does using the same aircraft in more than one traffic file at the same time cause any problems within FS9? 2. I have a few flyable aircraft that I've converted to AI. I've tweaked them to give good FPS etc. Just one problem. One or two of them seemingly randomly tilt backward on the ground so they are taxying with their tail on the ground. That would be fine if they were tail draggers, but they're not! LOL They typically start out okay, and when they park they go back to a normal position. Taking off and landing isn't an issue either. It just seems to happen when they are taxying... Anybody know how I could fix this??? Cheers Ian
November 17, 201213 yr 1. No 2. How about copying in .air and aircraft.cfg files from same-model dedicated AI? You'd need to adjust contact points maybe, but should work. You'd obviously have removed VC, sound, panel information already from the flyable, right?
November 17, 201213 yr Author Yes, have removed vc, sound, panel, converted all textures to DXT3 and have used a little payware utility I have that adjusts LOD... I will try the idea of using a similar .air and aircraft.cfg with adjusted contact points - good suggestion
November 17, 201213 yr payware utility I have that adjusts LOD Interesting... does it create new LOD's?
November 17, 201213 yr Author Interesting... does it create new LOD's? Sadly no - all it does is adjust the distance at which the models become visible. It doesn't work with all AI aircraft - it depends on the format used. It's called AI Optimizer - it's payware and I don't know that it's really worth the money, but take a look.
November 17, 201213 yr Anybody know how I could fix this??? Hi Ian, in the aircraft.cfg you'll want to tweak the cg and or contact points. Try shifting the cg forward small amounts at a time until the tail drag stops then observe to make sure the aircraft can still land and depart and park okay. If the aircraft will not fly correctly, restore the original cg number and try moving the main gear rearward half a foot at a time. One key to observe is when the aircraft is dragging the tail, do the main gear appear to be in proper contact with the ground. Regards, Mel

I keep promising myself to get (especially) the Russian stuff properly up and running... I hear you - the amount of repaints and even new models for AI is amazing. Michael Pearson especially is coming out with some incredible military AI packages along with MAIW, WofAi etc. The particular plane I am having the problem with is one that was a big part of my own personal history and that's why I have included it in an AI file that allows me to recreate some flights "back in the day." This sounds like it will solve the problem and I will post back here when I get it fixed to confirm it for anyone else who has a similar problem. I really appreciate the help Ian
November 17, 201213 yr I had a similar problem (No good AI model available) and ended up recording a giant looped Recorder Module sequence. This involved low-level rolls, and other stuff AI doesn't do. I tired of it quite quickly, but going back to it after a break, is just brilliant.
November 18, 201213 yr The particular plane I am having the problem with is one that was a big part of my own personal history and that's why I have included it in an AI file that allows me to recreate some flights "back in the day." Might I ask, just out of curiosity, which aircraft you working on? Mel
November 19, 201213 yr Author DH Devon RNZAF. My first multi experience so I have a retro thing going with Robin Corn's NZWB scenery with a bunch of Harvards, Devons and an occasional Dakota.
November 19, 201213 yr G'day, Calclassics do an AI DH Dove (not a Devon, but very close enough). Regards, Dorian
November 19, 201213 yr Hello Dorian, Haven't seen that one... D'you know if there are any RNZAF repaints for it anywhere? Otherwise we could ask Ian W for his template
November 19, 201213 yr G'day Charl, No, sorry (although the Heron, included in the same d/l pack, has an NAC repaint). Regards, Dorian
November 19, 201213 yr Hi, And it's usually better to move the main gear contact points back a foot or two, rather than adjust the CG which could have other effects. Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
