Clandestines above 1000 ft. AGL

Featured Replies

For those that believe that you won't get nailed by the law when you fly higher than 1000 ft. AGL, I'm here to tell you that eventually you will.

I flew a clandestine from Clear Lake this morning and about half way to my destination, my passenger spotted the plane. I was at 8000 ft. at the time. The plane went away. But after a short time it came back. I decided to try to evade it, but it kept coming. So in desperation I dove down to tree top level and started flying valleys about 90 degrees from my target. No good. The law kept getting closer and closer. Finally, I was busted. Mission Failed.

This is the first time I've been captured when flying this high. Just goes to show that most of the time you can get away with it, but not always.

Thank you.

Rick

I still have not run into trouble yet, knock on wood. But I am at 10 or 12,000 feet on those kind of missions with the C-46. Maybe I Am to fast for low level interseption? I don't come down until near the destination.

I don't think they can catch you in the C46, 200knts +altitude is a no go for the RV.

I've always flown these in either the CC or the Maule and never had a problem either. But I sure got whacked today. Oh well, I guess the cops are catching on to my little technique. I'll have to be more careful in the future.

Thank you.

Sooner or later, you criminals always get caught. Just a matter of time.

Best regards.

I think the clandestine mission logic is buggy. I think if it worked as intended you would get busted regularly for both flying high and directly to the objective. A common glitch is when the copilot spots a plane then immediately dismisses it.

I've been spotted a few times flying CC in the Maule. Since I always run them above 10000, by the time I'm spotted, I just point the nose at the destination and do a full-power glide. I walk away from the RV at 130--150 knots. I've always managed to get within the five-mile check-point, at which point the LEO loses interest.
