November 24, 201213 yr FTX products arn't that FPS heavy, but some can be. KJAC can be. With the big terrain ones, they really don't affect frames, however sometimes you have to lock your frames because mine will usually jump from 60 down to 30 with orbx products.
November 24, 201213 yr The topic is "how fps heavy are FTX products." When you scale down the scenery/traffic etc and say it doesn't hurt fps then you're not really comparing it to anything. You wouldn't know what sort of FPS loss you'll get because you already scaled back your scenery settings. The OP's thread needs to say "How fps heavy are FTX products compared to default scenery." At least this is what I think he meant. What you need to do with Orbx is run the same settings as vanilla FSX (everything needs to be compared to default, because this is what other users have for certain). Then you will see what the frame rate drop is like. Example: If with vanilla scenery you run max autogen... then max autogen needs to be set for Orbx if you are comparing FPS loss. I don't buy a product to turn down my settings, I buy most scenery for eye candy (what else matters with payware scenery?). The thing is - I completely understand there will be a loss of performance given similar settings to vanilla FSX - and I accept this! Anyway, OP there is a PNW demo you can try with KSEA area and you'll know how it works or doesn't on your system: http://fullterrain.com/product_demos.html BTW, almost any addon will drop performance given consistent testing against vanilla settings. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

At least this is what I think he meant. Huh? I never said anything about 'it doesn't hurt fps', that was your translation. I took care to describe exactly what I do and my experience, and noted where I need to compromise to enjoy the full benefit of the beautiful scenery ORBX produces. While the title of the OP was what it was, the OP's stated question was, 'How do they run on a medium system?' The man said he was 'deeply amazed' by their product. I use their product almost daily and enjoy them immensely. Since I have a system which is measurably less capable than his, I think my response was exceedingly relevant to him. "I don't buy a product to turn down my settings, I buy most scenery for eye candy" Are your settings fully maxed out then, is that what you are saying? Vehicle, ground, airport, air, water traffic, all set at 100%? Highest possible AA settings? Or did you dial back a little to accommodate eye candy or an aircraft like the NGX? If you did, you've compromised. If you didn't, please report back to me how the NGX runs at KSEA in heavy weather in PNW scenery. And do share w/ everyone else because near as I can tell, no one here is saying the need for future hardware upgrades to run FSX to the max has officially come to an end. So in the end, it's about how you set your particular machine up to run what is important to you. The bottom line is: on a low to moderate end system by today's standards, w/ what amounts to modest compromises, one can enjoy the amazing scenery ORBX FTX offers. November 25, 201213 yr What you need to do with Orbx is run the same settings as vanilla FSX But wouldn't that inculde disabling AI traffic? And then you couldn't compare them again, because AI traffic will most likely have an effect on FPS, too. Generally speaking, I'd say some little adaptations should be allowed, such as AI traffic (really, who wants to AI at 100% just toland on a little GA airport and find out that all parking spaces are occupied already? Ok, that might be a bit of exaggeration, though). Also I think you could change your mesh settings, depending on whether you're flying in mountainous terrain (higher settings) or a mainly flat area (lower settings could work fine, still). I for example have various presaved settings, so I can easily switch between them, depending on where I'm going to fly, and what type of flying I'm going to do. Regards, Flo Florian
November 25, 201213 yr If you like almost all your sliders full, it seems you need a gtx580 or 680 plus overclocked cpu to 5ghz just to run FSX with detailed addons.
November 26, 201213 yr Thank You people. You guys really know what you are doing for sure! Thanks again. However, don't you think they need to polish the way they treat their costumers.. just a thought. Regards
