November 28, 201213 yr I'm sure this isn't the right way to do it, but I always engage VNAV and LNAV on the ground and engage autopilot whenever I'm ready ( I normally handfly to about 1000 ) and then A/T is managing speed. Well, if it let's you, don't think it's wrong. I think Ryan did the same way in the Tutorial 1. And I to this too, more convenient for me. You do is just basically arm VNAV and LNAV. After you reach the appropriate altitude they engage. Dmitrij Nazarenko

November 29, 201213 yr Good video Alex! I normally handfly to about 1000 You only fly that little of the route???? I am amazed. I normally engage between 8000 and 12000 ft depending. What do others do? "If you can't solve and equation with calculus, you're not using enough calculus" - A wise friend

I try and fly the first turn, and establish on the course in the SID. Especially if it is a tight turn. If there is too much ATC happening it is less work just to put the auto pilot in early. Especially if you are flying on your own! And I always land manual, to keep the brain muscle in gear. As long as it is clear. It is an automated aircraft at the end of the day. The AP It is there to make life easier. This was just a demo from Alex. There is a lot of work to do on a flight deck. Hand flying all of the route seems a bit pointless to me. Obviously when you get your hands on this this aircraft, you want to take advantage of the systems it has. J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s

I agree, but people probably fly for different reasons. I fly because I love flying, others may fly because they love the procedures, or whatever. I'm not saying I don't like the realism provided by the NGX but I immensly enjoy hand flying the aircraft, so I do.
