November 27, 201213 yr Hey guys First time posting on the forum, but here In Australia ATM is the wet season so lots of rain, I fly with the real world weather on so I'm flying through a lot of rain. It looks really odd when flying through heavy rain, having the wipers on (trying to be professional and all) and at the same time there is no rain affect on the windscreen ! I was just curious if anyone knows a rain effect add on for the the pmdg 737 ngs ngx in FSx? Cheers
November 27, 201213 yr Hiya, this subject has been discussed many times on the forum and I'm afraid the answer is no, it is not possible. The amount of animations required for development of rain in the NGX's VC would outstrip the number already used. That is how I understand things. As for a third party addon for such a thing, not 100% sure but I would imagine this again is not possible as this kind of effect would form part of the actual design textures used at the development stage and so be an intrinsic part of the actual aircraft design. November 27, 201213 yr As far as i know this couldn't be done in FSX due to the software programming itself.. Some developers described the process as 'too heavy on FPS' and respectively 'not worthy'
November 27, 201213 yr Author Oh okay that's understandable! It just looks stupid when your flying through rain and there is nothing comming up on the windscreen! But I understand Another thing, I am a captain on the 737 800 and as we pass through cloud in the real world the cloud hits the window as it goes past, with FSx I notice that as u pass through a cloud it just disappears! Is it the same as the rain add on? Or can u get cloud add on? Thank you

November 27, 201213 yr As far as i know this couldn't be done in FSX due to the software programming itself.. This is more of a FSX thread. But I remember FS2004 FS9 could do this rain patter effect really well. Unless I imagined it? One of my favorite memories was taking the PMDG747 in FS9 for a spin with the rain pattering the windscreen. J u l ia n D i a m a n d i s
November 27, 201213 yr Author Nah mate your correct! I remember training for becoming a FO on the 737 back in 2005 and using pmdg 737 on FS2004 And there the rain effect was perfect! I have the ifly 737 for FSX and that has the rain effect and that's pretty sick! But I just feel uncomfortable flying the ifly it's nothing like the PMDG version ! PMDG wins by 110%
November 28, 201213 yr This is more of a FSX thread. But I remember FS2004 FS9 could do this rain patter effect really well. Unless I imagined it? To add to what Howard stated. My understanding is, FSX has less effects capabilities/uses than FS2004 provided. So rain effects are opted out in order to add model realism.

The rain in FSX is very disappointing to be honest, but like you say it is just pretty graphic(or not in FSX case) which doesn't do much for the simulation. The dynamics are more important.
