December 5, 201213 yr Hi All A couple of months ago, I spent £1300 on hardware to replace my old FS9 machine and make the step up to FSX. Despite all my best efforts, I can't get a reasonable trade off between performance and FPS. I was wondering if anyone can offer any suggestions on what to change? There's just so many variables! I've tried to set up my hardware and software per Word Not Allowed's excellent guide, but even now find myself blighted by some truly awful frame rates in some places. I did a test whereby I monitored FPS for a repeat scenario at four of my most frequently used payware airports. The test criteria were: PMDG NGX -800, with engines running on active runway Cold Fronts weather theme Daytime Measurements taken with FRAPS. I start on the active runway, perform no takeoff configuration and go straight into the takeoff roll and climb to 1,000 feet. I recorded the LOWEST FPS value I got during that time, the results as follows: EGKK 17 FPS LFPO 11 FPS LFPG 10 FPS EGLL 8 FPS (!) Tell me there's something magical I'm missing here people! This is just not acceptable to create enjoyable flying! Bearing in mind this isn't in thick cloud, or with 4096 clouds, or whatever. I have UT2 and have AI traffic on about 30%. My settings aren't all maxed out, as I said, tried to set up with Word Not Allowed's guide as reference. Some of my key settings from my fsx.cfg: [bUFFERPOOLS] Poolsize=0 [GRAPHICS] SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED_10=1693458432 SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED=1693458432 D3D10=0 HIGHMEMFIX=1 TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=2048 NUM_LIGHTS=8 AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=1 AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1 COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1 LANDING_LIGHTS=1 AC_SELF_SHADOW=0 EFFECTS_QUALITY=2 GROUND_SHADOWS=0 TEXTURE_QUALITY=3 IMAGE_QUALITY=0 See_Self=1 Text_Scroll=1 [Display] TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40 UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=30 FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.1 I'd be very grateful if anyone could help. December 5, 201213 yr One needs to get ovet afps fixation. it doesnt help the enjoyment. Is FSX smooth, if so they dont matter. Most of the large airports give low FPS mostly becasue of Ai and all the scenery. In YSSY if i look towards the terminal i get 15 if i look away i get 25.It doesnt matter. you machine looks capable. Do one tweak at a time and enjoy the flying. Turn off the FPS counter it doesnt help you fly better.
December 5, 201213 yr I have read that Uk2000 egll is not very good at fps.it is a very large airport with a lot of AI. I noticed that we have a very similar setup.although i don't use GEX and UTX. I use FTX eng and some UK2000 airports.and also the ngx and qw146. I also don't use aircraft shadows or reflections.Aircraft shadows at somewhere like EGLL would be a massive hit on your computer. also i don't use airport traffic. should add that i noticed that you are using a fsx weather theme i think and that is also a a very big hit because it doesn't set a visibilty limit as far as i know. maybe worth listing you display/ settings so people get a better idea of how far your sliders are going. steve REX SKYFORCE 3D steve howlett

I don't really care what the number is if its smooth. Smooth=enjoyable and my fps are so low at times that its like watching a slideshow! In normal circumstances I use real world weather through ASE not FSX themes. I will try disabling the aircraft shadows though and see if that helps!
December 5, 201213 yr Don't see this in the settings you listed, but have you set: [JobScheduler] AffinityMask=14 In his FSX setup guide Word Not Allowed discusses this setting and why it may help. I can only tell you that this was the very first FSX setting I tweaked on my previous not-so-capable rig and the difference in performance was totally dramatic. You've got a great rig with an excellent overclock and a more than adequate gpu. No reason why you can't improve performance, but realize that some scenery is so demanding that even the best systems will choke or at least cough on it. December 5, 201213 yr I am quiet in the same situation as you BA757, me to i bought a new pc few weeks ago, I5 3570K oc 4.2, gtx 660, ram 8GO 1600mhz and i have exactly same FPS as you in these airports with ngx ... plus, i can't get adaptive vsync work ... (maybe a driver problem i am trying to fix it..) Do you have adaptive vsync 1/2 ? Do you have fps locked at 30 ?
December 5, 201213 yr Hi mate I also have Aircraft casts shadows on itself turned OFF.looks horrible anyway. also the [JobScheduler] AffinityMask=14 is in my fsx.cfg. My fsx.cfg was made by bojote's ventubo site.have you tried that.make a back up of your original and try here.. http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html works really well for me. take care steve  REX SKYFORCE 3D steve howlett
December 5, 201213 yr what have you got your scenery complexity and autogen settings set at? Try dropping autogen back a notch, then another, they try scenery complexity back a notch. Turn down your AI, turn down your traffic, ensure you do not have shadows ticked. that plane, those airports will do that to most machines. So, take a look at your settings as well as the fsx.cfg.
