December 13, 201213 yr One of the options in REX downloads is "DXT5 Optimized Clouds". I googled DXT5 and haven't really got a good definition of what that means. Anyone with familiarity with DXT5, please chime in a provide an answer of what this means and if and when someone would want to use this option. Thank You in advance!
December 13, 201213 yr DXT5 is a compression algorithm to improve performance of the image... Of course it's not going to look as good as the uncompressed version - but - it is helpful when you want to improve performance... My self - I use them this way all the time - as in my humble opinion - the 32 bit images used on clouds seem almost hard with the edges too defined - the DXT images look softer and more realistic to me... I think most folks probably disagree with me though... Regards, Scott
December 13, 201213 yr Nope, I'm with you Scott. I run all my clouds with DXT5 and a resolution of 1024. IMO I see no benefit of having the highest possible resolution for clouds when it's going to cost you on performance.
