Planning a round the world trip need some help

Featured Replies

Hi all i'm going to start a round the world flight come the new year in my a2a b-17 what im looking for is a website that will for example say i takeoff from Heathrow that is my departure airport and i have a max range of say 1000 miles is there a website that i can put my departure airport in and set the distance to this and it will list the closest airports in that 1000 mile range.

I'm sure i seen a website that does this but for the life of me cant remember unfortunatley.

Thanks for the help

and have a great christmas tomorrow when it comes

Try "plan g" it should be perfect, although I prefer the older release version than the latest. I went round the world in a twin prop. I followed the same route as Ewan Mcgregor in the DVD "Long way round". Was a blast.

Hayden,

Go to www.gcmap.com. Click on the map tab next to the map ranges. Scroll down to the Range box and enter the range (1000nm) you want and a centerpoint such as an airport (example-KDEN) like this-

1000nm@LHR

Hit enter and it will show you a graphic map of the range circle.

You can also plot a course with range circles on it to see if you can make the next airport or not.

thanks very much both of you :) cheers

And why don't you try Destination Finder for FSX, free and very flexible with all fsx database data. I use it to plan my next flights.

+1 for destination finder, fantastic tool for flight sim and free to boot.

Search Google for Destination Finder v2, since it is not in the AVSim library....

Hi all, thanks i will take a look at that aswell :P just thought i would let you guys see what i have came up with so far fsxRTW

This is after 1hr ish of planning tried to keep flights to a couple of hours as with work commitments and flying my old B-17 i like to take care of her this is just a rough draft i am thinking of going right up into maybe mongolia/russia aswell got kind of carried away once i got near europe lol but so far this is a estimated 220 hour flight so it is going to be exciting to see how long my trustworthy b-17 lasts without something giving up.

i have kept the flight plan as safe as i can avoiding ocean crossings as much as possible.

What do you guys think

i have tried to make it as (around) as possible obviously i am new to taking on such a task as this and im limited to the amount of time my b-17 can fly for im going to try and make it as interesting as possible for myself stopping in places i usually fly to in my big jets it's kind of turned more into a adventure lol

hope you guys can give me some pointers in what i should change or if this is looking not bad so far.

Merry christmas to all :P
