January 1, 201313 yr AccuFeel doesn't do helicopters, sorry. You'll be adding a lot of collective during a landing because you're not only losing translational lift, you're having to decelerate both horizontally and vertically. It's only when you're down to near walking speed that the ground effect takes over. If you're to the point of doing it subconsciously, you're over the hump. Anything else is just perfecting your technique. And congrats! Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
January 1, 201313 yr And I could never get EZDOK to work with helos either. But the DHM in Opus is fantastic for helos. Has a separate setting for them in fact. Glad to see folks are hanging in there. They are a challenge, but that's part of the fun, right? And landing on one of those postage stamp fire tower platforms in the PNW sure feels great! Never get tired of that!
January 1, 201313 yr I'm completely psyched now! I spent another hour or so tightening up my landings and then I decided it was time to play Howlin' Mad Murdoch and chase the fuel trucks around the airport, stopping when they stop, etc. This proved to be very valuable practice in precision control. The only thing to say about this is that I had basically been skeptical that being able to control a copter such as the Dodosim was possible with any precision in a simulation due to a variety of limitations (for instance depth perception). It seems that more is possible than I thought, and it isn't taking me as long as I thought to come up to speed. Now the only thing that makes me a little mad is that the Dodosim 206 is basically the only one at this level of realism for FSX. To the OP: I'm not exactly Mr Cirque du Soleil with the hand/eye coordination, so if I can get better at this, I imagine just about anybody can, and I hope you've stuck with it as well. I will say though, that I'm not sure how I would be able to fly this without a TrackIR--that is certainly helping me out a lot. Anyway, I'm having a blast flying these machines, feeling good about my pace of learning, and I wish you all a Happy New Year.
April 18, 201313 yr I'm just now really getting into helicopters, too, and it's a blast! It really is seat of your pants flying, I keep wanting to use gauges but find I do much better just keeping an eye out the front cockpit window. Thanks for all the great advice in this thread! Steve
