737NGX vs PMDG 747-400 (FPS!)

Featured Replies

Okay, I searched the forums and heard very different reviews on whether the 737NGX ran better than the 747-400.

I have 2GB of RAM and a Duo-Core 2.3ghZ processor.

If I get 10-15 FPS in busy airports with the NGX, will I be okay if I get the 747-400? Overall my major question is does the 747-400 perform worse or better than the NGX?

I was under the impression that the newer code of the PMDG B737 allows for better performance. Therefore, I believe the second version of the PMDG B747 will feature performance better than that of the original. For this reason, plus the fact that the graphics and systems will be updated, I think you should wait until the second version is released, especially since you have already experienced the excellence of the PMDG B737.

For reference purposes, on my old Apple iMac (2.80 GHz Core 2 Duo E8235), I was able to find settings that allowed 20 frames/s with the PMDG B747 without FSX.cfg tweaks.

Same or more fps it really depends when you fly if you do a fresh restart and fly fps will be beter than if you were using your computer for 2 hours and then fly.

Any other experiences? Also, for anyone to answer, how hard is it to install liveries? Is it all copy/pasting into the .CFG's or is it somewhat automated like the NGX?

Each repaint comes with its own installer, so all you need to do is click four options and the rest of the process is automatic.

I don't know how far this applies for the 747, however in the MD-11 I get better performance than in the NGX.

See, in my situation, I get better performance in the NGX than in either the MD11 or the 747. I get the worst performance in the MD11 (peak at 20-25fps, locked at 30), followed by the 747 (peak between 25 and 29) and best is NGX pretty much always pegged at 30 except for in busy traffic/airport situation.

For me the MD-11 gives me the best performance then the NGX then in last place the 747.

Okay, thanks everyone.

I think I will get either the 777X or 747 v2 because as seen the performance improves across the products so it appears to be my best bet to try and wait!

For me i get anything from 20-30 fps on a busy airport with the 737/747/MD11 and then after take off i get anything above 40 fps.

But from the 3 of them i think the MD11 still performs a little better then the other 2.

I fly the NGX, 744X and am now learning the MD-11 and I can say that the B744X will give you the best FPS out of them all.

It seems to have the lowest res textures out of them all including a lower polygon count in the VC but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Hmmm, so I guess it mostly depends on the system used.

Hard to compare all of them in reality.

If they all posessed the precise external/internal graphics (VC res etc), the exact same systems, it might be simpler.

But as it stands, each has slightly differing features in all areas and were built using different code etc.

Now if all were built using same standards, & released simultaneously, perhaps a slightly different story in terms of being able to make fair & reasonable comparisons.

I'm only speaking of a single user owning all 3 aircraft and testing on the same system.

For me, with my good computer, the NGX is the hardest on FPS and the MD-11 is the best, the 747 is right in between.
