FS Real Time hassles

Featured Replies

Does anyone else have problems with FS Real Time or is it just me? When it I can get it to work it is great but most times when I attempt to load it I get that annoying MS message saying that FS Real Time has encounted a problem and has to close. I have emailed the developer but after two weeks have yet to receive any help. Can any users of this potentialy very useful addon provide advice on how to get FS Real Time and FS9 to cohabit happily. Alernatively are there other addons that do the same thing and work without any hassles?Grateful for any assistance.Bruce

"g'day bruce, my name is bruce, and here is my brother bruce who works a the University of wolamaloo"I use FSrealtime without any problems, does it give you any clue as to what the problem is?

Hi Bruce, when I connect FS Real Time to FS9 I have a 50/50 chance, that it'll just work fine or close immediately (without an error message). If it closes, I'll have to restart it several times, before it will work, but eventually it just works. Sometimes (rather infrequent) it crashes on long flight, but without doing any real harm. This behaviour started, when I switched from FS8 to FS9.As like FS Real Time very much, I just resigned to the above FS RT starting technique.RegardsOliver

Thanks Oliver for confirming that it is not just my system. What you describe is pretty much what I am seeing when starting FS Real Time and I also have had one crash while crossing the Atlantic.Yes I also like the program very much when I can get it to work.Bruce

I had the EXACT same issues a while back wit FS RealTime. I can't remember exactly what I did to rectify the problem, but I do recall that checking on "Automatically connect to Flight Simulator" and "Start AutoUpdate Automatically" seemed to work. I also don't start the FS Real Time program until FS9 is started and I'm in my plane at the gate.I also assume you have version 1.65? Let me know if these settings help if you haven't tried them already.Aaron

Thanks. I will try your suggestions. I have now had a reply from the developer and i have sent him my system details. But as it seems this problem is shared by a number of users I am a little surprised that the developer couldn't offer an immediate fix.Bruce

A bit of advice for you. Wait. Click on the icon to start the program, its main interface will come up. Wait about 5-10 seconds, then click "connect". Haven't had a problem when I wait, if I click right away, the program crashes. Try it and let me know. John Haley

Hi John,>Wait. >>Click on the icon to start the program, its main interface>will come up. Wait about 5-10 seconds, then click "connect". > Haven't had a problem when I wait, if I click right away,>the program crashes. >>Try it and let me know. yep, patience lessens the crashes somewhat, but they still occur. I was already waiting between 30s and 1min, while I did other stuff (check fuel, program the avionics). I will try again without doing anything in FS.I'll also try the auto-connect/update (never liked it though, guess I'm old-fashioned).Thanks for the input so far.RegardsOliver

Hi Oliver, It could be the order that the program is activated. Can't truly say for sure. I start FS9 via FS Autostart, then I Ctl-Alt-Del out and start two other applications, FS Reliability Factor, Flight Deck Companion, then FS Real Time. I always wait at least 5 seconds without doing anything, then I click "connect" and I haven't had a problem with crashes. Once it connects successfully, I'm in and out of the program setting up weather through Active Sky, etc. Know what you mean though, and I have seen lots of posts about this. Let me know, John

Hello all!To let you all know, I'm actively working on a fix for this. I can't tell you when an update will be ready but I can tell you that I've received several e-mails concerning the issue of FS Real Time crashing with the cause of the crash being an illegal instruction in the ntdll.dll file. Since FS Real Time doesn't access this file for normal use and I'm not able to reproduce the problem on any of our test machines, the problem is twice as hard to track down and fix. I do ask though that you please be patient while I look into this problem.Regards,Joshua Robertson3D Softworks Design [email protected]

Joshua,This has to be strange case. I have been using FS Real Time for some time and it has performed flawless on my system. Good luck in tracking down this problem.CheersBob Johnson

Perhaps dumb questions:What FS Real Time is for ?Is it freeware/payware ?And similar for FS Reliability Factor ?Michael J.

Michael J.

Not a dumb question. I am wondering the same thing.

Yes Jim it does that AND it keeps the time zones in the correct order. This is really important if you fly cross the oceans or tran-continential.Bob
