January 14, 201313 yr I have to repeat my call to ATC several times so that I can get it in between the other ATC instructions to other aircraft. I get that annoying beep. When pressing an ATC selection numerical button my response or request gets transmitted right away to ATC but when U have to say it, by the time I'm done ATC is talking to other aircraft and I get that beep. Is this normal? Is there a fix?
January 14, 201313 yr No it's normal! You have to remember FSX ATC was never designed to handle the amount of traffic we throw at it. You just have to be patient and wait your turn. One of the problems, is the traffic alerts occur with separations as much as 3-4000ft, where in RL it should only be 1000ft, this multiply the number of unnecessary radio messages considerably. I keep thinking there is still undocumented setting in the FSX.CFG file that will allow adjustments to this (and some other issues FSX have) but so far no one has found them. The one thing you can do if you haven't already is download FS EditVoicepack which has options to speed up the voice of ATC. That will help some. It also has more realistic phraseology (and the ability to modify it yourself - I have modified it myself, the file is in FSX/Sound library if your interested) as well more realistic airline callsigns, airplane and airport identifiers. January 14, 201313 yr It can be diffocult getting your transmission in at busy airports. There are a couple things you can do to help: The freeware package EditVoicePack (EVP) can be used to speed up the default FSX ATC phraseology and give you more gaps. Also, your PTT input is not processed until either you release the PTT button or it times out. So you can hold the PTT button down until there is a pause in the ATC chatter and then release it to get your input processed. You can also extend the PTT button timeout. I can't remember what the default is, but you can extend it to maximum 30 seconds by adding: PTTTimeout=3000 to the ATC section of your mce.ini file. (Note that there are two mce.ini files on your system. The one you need to change is (for W7) in the Users\<<yourid>>\appdata\roaming\Multi Crew Experience folder.) This is how I run and it works fine.
January 14, 201313 yr Author Thanks so much for the responses! That's what I love about AVSIM! You guys really improved my MCE experience!
January 14, 201313 yr The other solution is to purchase a third party ATC program such as Radar Contact or Pro Flight Emulator. Delays/frustrations are minimised when using such programs.
