January 18, 201313 yr Hello, I have been following the tutorial to shift to DX10 : - backup the FSX files (cfg....) - Install the latest shaders - config both FSX and Nvidia Inspector - REX with DX10 optimized textures The results were OK in term of performance and AA.... but everytime I shift to the VC view, I got the blue splash screen for 2 seconds which is very annoying + I got pink walls on TNCM for example and black squares randomely over the water.... Then i decided to revert to DX9 doing : - a restore of my backed up FSX files (fsx.cfg....) - changing REX to non DX10 textures. So I have 2 questions : 1- did I do what's necessary to revert to DX9 or dis I miss some other steps (for example, did the installation of Steve's shaders affected my FSX for DX9 ?) 2- did I miss something that led to the issues I encountered with DX10 Thank you very much for your help, Greg too much, too soon....
January 18, 201313 yr You could have replaced the "blue splash screen" with the black texture in the "Bonus" folder but then you would have had black textures for two seconds instead. Some VC textures do take a short while to load. Random black squares over water may have been caused by this line in your FSX.cfg file. SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=2 Both of these fixes are in the latest DX10 notes.pdf. I don't know what "pink walls on TNCM" means, sorry. In applying the advised modifications, you may have overloaded your PC. I have carefully applied all the published fixes and see none of your problems. What you have done should have returned your FSX to where it was before. Replacing the Dx10 shaders has no effect at all on how FSX performs in Dx9. I can return mine by simply changing D3D10=1 to D3D10=0.
January 18, 201313 yr Author Thanks for your reply. I actually don't have SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=2 in my fsx.cfg... will try again tonight to see if things change. too much, too soon....
January 18, 201313 yr And Fly Tampa's TCNM has a version 1.2, Greg, which fixes that pink wall and runway textures. Those pics were taken when testing the 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 versions of Steve's patch. If I remember correctly 3.2.1 fixes some grey walls at some airports, and this was removed in 3.2.2, but is included in the DX10Fixer (not released yet). i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
January 18, 201313 yr Before I do anything else - I ran FSX in DX10 Preview mode with the resultant flickering, etc. So I knew it worked. I then applied the shader release 3.2.2 fix, and when I started FSX, all was fine until I clicked on "Fly Now" at which point I got a total black screen, and had to back out by closing the window. Starting FSX again, I unchecked the DX10 Preview box, and everything is okay. Is this an easy fix, or should I start reading the entire "manual" and modifying stuff? -= Gary Barth =-
January 18, 201313 yr It's a fairly easy fix but it has to be done carefully and thoroughly. Reading the entire "manual" shouldn't take more than 10 minutes or so, including applying the fixes. You do have to do it twice, though, once for the shader fixes and then the "How to" document. If you don't have a spare 20 minutes or so, this is not for you.

I've actually gone through the manual a few times, and I have more time on my hands than I know what to do with. I just wondered if the "black screen" was a known issue with a known repair. Strange thing is, the entire screen is black, no menus, no nothing. I have to hit shift-escape to close the FSX window, and get my screen back. I'll go over the fix again and see if I can make this thing work. I'd like to switch to DX10, and I know that it works (sloppily) with the Preview mode selected. Back to the manual. -= Gary Barth =-
January 21, 201313 yr I have done everything in my power to make this work, and I'm thinking that my hardware just isn't going to handle DX10. My video "card" is an nVidia GeForce 8300 built into my MOBO (an ASUSTek M4N78 Pro) running an AMD Phenom II X4 925 quad-core processor. That should be enough stuff to make this work, but still... After all of the instructions were followed, I still get the black screen, and have to turn off DX10 to get back in the game. I must be missing something, but can't figure out what. Back to the drawing board... -= Gary Barth =-
January 21, 201313 yr I had a quick look, Gary, but I don't think the 8300 is DX10 compliant... Take a deeper look if you will and get back to us. January 21, 201313 yr I had a quick look, Gary, but I don't think the 8300 is DX10 compliant... Take a deeper look if you will and get back to us. All the Best, Well, that would answer a few questions, wouldn't it? That might be the solution right there. But where would I find out? Would MS have the answer? I found an article here at the Tech Report that states in one paragraph: Interestingly, the nForce 780a SLI's mGPU architecture is essentially identical to what you'll find inside the GeForce 8300. This graphics core was derived from Nvidia's GeForce 8400 desktop GPU, so it's fully compliant with DirectX 10 and Shader Model 4.0. A total of 16 stream processors can be found inside the mGPU, and those SPs run at 1.5GHz, while the rest of the GPU core is clocked at 500MHz. The GeForce 8200 chipset is also available with a slightly slower shader clock of 1.2GHz. So I suppose that it should work, if only I can figure out how. If there's anyone out there who has experience with this graphics "board", maybe they could be of some help. I really want to make this work, and I'm open to any and all suggestions. -= Gary Barth =-
January 23, 201313 yr I have been to several Web pages re the nVidia GeForce 8300, and it seems that it is 100% compatible with DX10. The 8300 is an onboard video processor, and it came with my ASUS M4N78 mobo. I'm going to try all of this again, reverting back to a virgin fsx.cfg file, and see if I can gradually make it work. I've already been to the FSX Configurator page and downloaded a "modified" fsx.cfg to go over and see what is being changed. I have the nVidia Inspector, and have printed out the suggestions in the How-To thread up here. This has to work - I just have to figure out HOW! When I do, I'll be happy to publish my results for anyone else going through this. Any other help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -= Gary Barth =-
January 23, 201313 yr Well, Gary, if you can hang in there, so can we. If you need help on Teamspeak or teamviewer, we can do that too! EST here, and bedtime, so not tonight, though. Thanks, Paul! I think I'll "delete" my old fsx.cfg file (back-up, of course) and let FSX make me another one. Then I'll open nVidia Inspector and let it restore the FSX settings to default. I've already replaced the DX10 shaders with the old ones. The only thing that gives me concern is the REX app I have. It's installed a lot of super-duper textures which may or may not screw some things up...not too sure. But I'm going to try to revert back to the original wherever I can, and then start over. Appreciate all the help I can get. Again, thanks! -= Gary Barth =-

Let me know what I need to download and I'll get on it. Looks like Teamspeak is a $$ situation. Do you guys up here have a server for it? -= Gary Barth =-
