January 23, 201313 yr Some time ago I read here that FScene 4X for FS9 (and X) was on sale for $19.95 US. After visiting the site and reading about it along with viewing the available screen caps, I was tempted to buy it but did not. Now it is back up to its (regular?) price of S39.95 US, and I wonder how many here think it is worth that much. For purposes of comparing what I see as worth the money, a year ago or more I purchased REX Xtreme for FS9 at full price. I do not use or have ever had any interest in its weather system or its flight planner, but use the textures only and to me, the improvement they provide was well worth the purchase price.

FSCENE Is well worth the purchase i have it on my sim and its very FPS friendly and the textures are great. I dont know if i personally would pay that much for it but i know its a great product.
January 23, 201313 yr I would suggest Ground Environment instead. I think the "professional" version is $50, the regular one is $40. It's at Flight1 if you want to check out the features. Also, since it's Flight1 you of course have the 30-day refund option if you don't like it.
January 23, 201313 yr I am not answering the question you pose Robert but I must concur with metalmike. It is 'generally' accepted that most serious simmers use Ground Environment Pro from Flight1. Coupled with excellent mesh and great landclass you won't do better. GEP includes sky textures as well as ground and you have the opportunity of editing the latter for added flexibility. Another benefit, should you happen to use Active Sky weather engine, is that the ground textures (sunny, partly cloudy, overcast etc) can be automatically applied to FS9 through GEP whilst in the weather engine. Really neat. Best of luck.
January 23, 201313 yr Author I would like to express my thanks for all who gave input. I have checked out (and bookmarked) the GE page on Flight1, and will be saving my pennies so that I may purchase it as soon as possible. They are now listing the non-Pro version at $23 US, and based upon the gallery of screenshots it seems to look at least as good, probably better, than FScene at $16 lower cost.
January 23, 201313 yr I have REX and FScene on a frame rate challenged system. I find them completely transparent to any frame rate issues and the effects from both programs make FS9 much richer looking and more complimentary to the beautifully detailed aircraft that are available today. Although I have owned a copy of FSX since the first day it was available, it has never been a serious challenge to the flexibility and low cost of my FS9 setup. I'm not sure what the OP dislikes about the REX weather generator, but I can use the REX weather system as my source for local real- world weather information if I want to, and see it on my monitor while sim-flying from our local regional airport (KDPA). Unfortunately, I have no experience with Ground Environment Pro. I'm sure it lives up to its reputation.
January 24, 201313 yr I to have GEP But switched to FSCENE for some reason i get lower FPS on GEP but every computer is different. GEP also gives you the ability to change the texture colors according to seasons as well. Definitly offers more then FSCENE for a cheaper bargain but as i said its pretty heavy on my FPS and im running an intel core 2duo E7500 my machine has 8GB DDR2 ram and i have a 6750 Rad-eon HD series with 1gb video memory.... not sure why my FPS drops with GEP FSCENE Also has some pretty good snow textures Hopefully you can see them well it was dark as i was flying an event with USA FLight VA It was King Air Fly in Edited January 31, 201313 yr by firehawk44 Two images removed. Exceed 400KB weight limit.
January 24, 201313 yr I've never used FScene with FS9 (just with FSX), and the textures aren't bad at all, but one thing I really like about Ground Environment is that it aligns the autogen nicely with the roads. But I have heard complaints of GE's textures being a bit less vibrant than FScene's. I still think the autogen enhancement is well worth it though, especially if you use it with UT. Kind of weird that you have FPS issues with it though.
