New to X-Plane

Featured Replies

it might be increased gamma settings in XP.

I was surprised to see a gamma adjustment in the XPlane settings. Too bad it requires a restart to take effect, as usually the only time I'd mess with it is if I needed an adjustment during a flight. I use a utility called Gamma Panel to change it on the fly with keyboard commands, and I can also change the contrast there if needed.

I noticed the keychain, but not the mic cord. That's the kind of gee-whiz details Carenado likes to include.

I think the scenery is certainly livable as it is, and improvements will come with time.

I just downloaded some ortho of the Peoria, IL area and converted the latest OSM data.

Not too bad. All this was added to OSM by one person.

And just for S'es & G's, here's Chicago OSM data with everything under "STUFF TO DRAW" in the rendering options maxxed out, except road traffic. Note the frame rate.

The skyline is part of a freeware airport package from Ted's Scenery Downloads.

The guys over at TruScenery have made available ortho and OSM for Helsinki as freeware - well worth checking it out. Works great with their airports as well - which are spectacular.

Anyway, check it out as I think it demonstrates nicely what is being discussed: http://truscenery.wordpress.com/

Jon, those screen shots look fantastic, it's eerily real looking (not too bad? holy crap). We need a lot of help here in Canada, not many areas come close to looking like that. I did about 200 buildings in the Toronto core height wise, they don't show in the latest releases anymore, never heard anything more from Ben, OSM2XP guy.

They do look really nice.....

Well, I guess I'm trying to be a little more measured in my praise. Actually, imho, that second picture in particular looks pretty frickin' great!
