February 3, 201313 yr I am close to order my Ivy Bridge system, but then I started thinking, "should I wait for Haswell?". If I read articles correctly, Haswell should arrive around June and I suppose Haswell would require a z87 board to go with it instead of a z77 which I am about to order...
February 3, 201313 yr Even though Haswell launches in June, I'd be best to wait even a few weeks more to make sure Haswell mobos are well integrated. Do you really want to wait that long? IMO, it's best to wait..but thats me, not you. February 3, 201313 yr Ive been thinking the same thing. You could probably wait if you are reasonably satisfied with your current setup. If not, you might as well go for it. Nobody knows if Intel will fix the cooling issues or if it will release on time and without issues. On the other hand, if it is a major increase in performance, it would be rather annoying. So I guess its a wash. Daniel Miller
February 3, 201313 yr If I were you, I would wait a few more months. I came close to going with IB a while back but decided to wait for the next gen boards + CPUs. I sure hope Haswell brings better OCing + IPC improvements....
February 4, 201313 yr At this point it makes more sense to wait, IMO. That's what I'm doing anyhow. Rumors point at a ~10% increase per clock (which would put a 4.5 GHz Haswell at the same level as a 5GHz Ivy Bridge). Overclocking is of course unknown at this point - It's possible Intel has tweaked the 22nm process for more headroom, but on the other hand the voltage regulator will be integrated which might limit overclocking. If it's a disappointment, you can always pick up an Ivy Brdige+mobo for cheap in the summer. -
