I have been a long time user of ASE, but sadly, I am letting this old bird go. I am simply blown away by Opus weather, dynamics, ease of use, etc etc. I now understand what all the hype was about.

So, I finally purchased and I gotta say Bravo to the developers. I had my criticisms in the past, but all that is history now.

Only one quibble, which I expect will be improved in the future, is seamless compatibility with TIR. I had to downgrade to 5.1.3 as the latest version would not play nicely. Also I am still trying to find a sweet spot for the scanning adjustments. I still get the occasional jump/glitch. Bumping the scan number a bit helps, but at the cost of TIR smoothness, and it is not consistent across different aircraft. Keeping this number as low as possible proves smoother TIR movement, which for me is essential. I hope this gets a little more refined down the road.

Best addon in years. Keep up the good work! I am a proud supporter now!

Hi Marc

I am not surprised by your reaction to this best addon for years. Post these comments in the official forum - I know Stephen & Cheryl will appreciate your comments.

So I have had a few days to really test and tweak across various aircraft and weather environments, and I have given up, for now, attempting perfect stability of trackIR. Only using Opus for weather depiction at the moment, which is stellar. I initially followed Opus recommendations for scan settings and smooth settings yada yada, but ventured and experimented with other settings.

Bottom line is that trackir pan smoothness can only be achieved with OPUS config scan setting of 15 or lower, however this causes more jitters. For less jitters, higher than 15, especially over 20, TIR panning is simply too stuttery. I have even seen jitters as high 30. And at that level, TIR is too stuttery to even use, despite my fps solidly locked at 30. I have tried every combination of smooth settings TIR config, adjusted TIR brightness, filter, etc etc. TIR smooth settings imo are more realistic at lower settings, in my case 20 max. The lower the number the less load on cpu also. Their is no happy medium. If I get acceptable settings with one aircraft, this does not guarantee jitter free in another aircraft. Environmental conditions and fps load also play a factor.

On my system I have incredible levels of smoothness with fsx and trackir normally. Something is simply not playing well here with the TIR server, simconnect, or simply this is some kind of limitation. I hope not. Unfortionately I have had to disable DHM and Live Cam, until this gets sorted out.

And I am using driver 5.1.3

I have not had a chance to get to simforums

Our TIR is smooth across all aircraft. Have you set the light filter threshold to our settings recommended in the getting started guide, start at about 70.

This is a cause of most problems with light and heat sources.

I can get it smooth, and by smooth, I mean, fluid motion, no stutter while panning with TIR, however scan settings must be low enough around 5 - 10, or lower. At these low scan settings another phenomenon creeps up that I believe users have been calling jitters. What I mean by jitter, is a sudden spasm of the viewpoint, that can happen once, or in succession. It happens much more frequently the lower the scan settings and during heavy weather, although it is somewhat unpredictable. I have flown no problem and it not happen until taxiing, for example. Again, raising the scan setting eliminates the jitters, but induces the non fluid stutters when panning. In my case, I was only able to achieve a middle ground, with some stutter, and an occasional jitter. I personally would rather stutter free pan.

I have tried adjusting the light filter threshold per your recommendations, and have currently set at 84. I have tried IR brightness between 12-15.

Like I said, I can set it and forget it, and maintain the middle ground, but for me its hard to break away from fluidity, which is what all of us FSX fanatics strive for.

More input is always welcome. There is nothing more I want right now than for this to work, the immersion is already being missed.

Tonight I decided to give DHM another go with the new Natural Point drivers release about a week ago, ver. 5.2.2 along with they latest Opus beta 2.90.3. Everything seems smoother, and the sudden spasms seemed to have disappeared at the moment. I am using all the same settings as before. I'll give this a go for a little while and see. Crossing my fingers.

Well, I must give credit to the OP; because of his enthusiastic remarks I downloaded the demo version and did some comparison with my standard add-on weather program. I checked it with the present local weather and I must admit, OPUS was closest.

Yeah, I dunno what Opus figured out, but the way cloud textures are layered looks absolutely stunning and closest to reality I have ever seen in FSX.

And with minimal fps impact to boot...

Same here! Have been using REX weather as well as ASA before, but both of them never reached the same level of accuracy as OPUS does. The fact that i can also drop EZDOK for view management is an extra bonus feature to me!

Also the 'new' PROATCX i'm using is able to read the OPUS weather data on my arrival airport!

All of this has greatly improved my flight sim experience!

Just like OP i will try out the latest Trackir software because although smooth i do get the occasional jitter every now and then.
