Life as an Airline Pilot

Featured Replies

This video really glamourises it - you'd be surprised just how non-glamorous the life that flying for 'airlines' actually is - in particular a low cost carrier.

Oh, the "shine and glamour" of being an airline pilot wore off back in the late 60's to early 70's, when corporate started treating the cockpit crew as if they were Greyhound bus drivers or 18 wheel truckers...

Just got an offer to go back into the small stuff and I am jumping. Airline work is too hard for me! I enjoy my 250 days off and exotic locations with corporate.

Good luck with the future endeavours!!! ^_^ :Applause:

Oh but come on we're just bus drivers nowadays (No offence to bus drivers ofcourse - I couldn't fly with a screaming child)

Ah well not long before they cut our salaries again or extend our hours eh....

But Yes goodluck Chris and hope all is well for you!

Anyway off to bed I go, got another day of the o'Leary and co show....

Probably true, but I don't think 9 to 5 behind an office desk is so glamorous either!

What do you have against truck drivers? According to some TV programs, it can be quite exciting...

I am a truck driver in north america and i can tell you that what you see on tv is pretty much made up. It is like airplane flying 99% bordom with nothing exiting punctuated by momenys of sheer terror.

Absolutely no offense was intended to either Greyhound bus drivers or truck (lorry) drivers...

On the contrary, my ire is directed towards the corporate suits who treat these worthy persons as though they were mere serfs (which any serf will tell you is actually worse than slavery)...

I will agree to that, we are just another pawn, all to crucial but unfortunately there is way more of us than there are positions available. So companies think they can do anything
