On going problem with Windows 7....

Anything else you can turn off for a test? If you can continue eliminating different things maybe you come across the answer. Maybe try a short flight with addon sceneries unchecked in the FSX scenery menu.

I think I will try that..thank you for your help tonight. I'll get as much of the load off of FSX as I can then run another test flight.

Sometimes a brute force approach is needed, maybe won't take too long to just uncheck the recent scenery, all the best.

SteveW is on the right track for sure! It appears you crash(es) are related to an effect in your Effects folder. The faulting module was the visualfx.dll which is used to display an FSX effect. Perhaps an effect needed for an aircraft you installed is not in the Effects folder and, when it is called and cannot be found, FSX crashes. You can try a reinstall of your aircraft addons and, if prompted, select 'repair'. This error mostly occurs based on an aircraft in your Airplanes folder not properly installed and usually occurs if the default flight in your [userinterface] Situation= is corrupted. With all CTD's, the first thing you should do is save your FSX.cfg and rename it to FSX.orig then restart FSX and let the config rebuild. Run FSX and see if the error still occurs. If not, the problem was with the FSX.cfg. If the error continues, then you can simply go back and rename that fsx.orig back to fsx.cfg and you are back to where you started. Renaming your fsx.cfg and letting it rebuild is almost like a complete uninstall/reinstall of FSX and a lot easier to do.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi again guys,

In the nicest way I was hoping not to be back on this part of the forum. Thanks to you Jim the computer has been working fine, perfect in fact but its suddenly started to crash again. A few nights ago it crashed at the gates when programing the FMC but thought this may be because I was clicking loades of button so I wasnt as annoyed in this instant.Last night it crashed on final approach to heathrow, I wasnt to bothered at this point though as Id just downloaded Heathrow Xtreme demo so though it might of been that. But then again tonight over england at FL160 out of knowhere... CRASH. Dont think Ive changed any setting but sorry I have yet ANOTHER crash report to you. (since last time I have proberly been MORE lenient with my FSX settings having most of them near to the left and autogen completely off!

Sorry to come back, AGAIN!

Kind Regards
Josh

Dont think Ive changed any setting but sorry I have yet ANOTHER crash report to you. (since last time I have proberly been MORE lenient with my FSX settings having most of them near to the left and autogen completely off!

Sorry to hear you are still having problems.  You received the g3d.dll crash and, if reoccurring, it probably means FSX is using too many resources.  It is related to memory.  The fsuipc4.dll fixes some g3d.dll errors but not all.  England, and especially the area around London and Heathrow, just uses a lot of resources unless it's the scenery.  If you have FTX/Orbx England installed, this could be causing the problem as I noted many people who got the g3d.dll error were flying around in the FTX/Orbx PNW around Seattle.  The scenery is looking for an object and cannot find it so it uses a lot of resources looking and then crashes.  If you could trap that like the developer of FSUIPC did, then the object would be ignored and you could continue on.  If you fly around the PNW/Seattle area and then look at your FSUIPC log after the flight has finished, you'll see it trapped several g3d.dll CTD's.  I see the g3d.dll module did load properly at loaded module 83.

I really don't know what to say to fix this problem for you.  The g3d.dll module crash is probably the most infamous fsx crash ever and we were fortunate that the developer of FSUIPC found a fix for one instance.  I have heard of others getting this crash in other areas of the world and they usually fixed it by lowering their FSX settings.  You state you already have yours down so maybe it's a system malfunction like overheating or wrong DRAM or CPU voltages.  There are so many possibilities for these types of crashes.  You have disabled scenery to see if that fixed the problem and it didn't but you might disable all of your addon scenery in your Scenery Library by unchecking the boxes.  If the crashes continue, then it is not the scenery.  If the error stops, then you'll have to enable 3-4 sceneries at a time to see which one might be causing the problem.  A long and tedious process but at least it will be easy to find out if it is your addon scenery causing the problem.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your lengthy reply but Iam in a rush at this moment so cant resond properly but in brief ansew to your question: no, I dont have my sliders particuarly high- I just did I little flight in a bn2 was going fine good fps at 30 (thats where they are locked at) and then suddenly it crashed. As you can imagien this is very annoying as the computer is nearly as bad as how it was all the way back in post 1!!! Ill uninstall FTX england and report back my results.- Looking at my crash report is there any signs any thing you have suggested I have installed has become unactive or is there as possibility that its a windows update, as this seems to have really come out of no where becasue as Ive already said up until about a week I go it was working fine doing 4-5 hour flights in the ngx??

Kind Regards
Josh

I wish I could give you better advice.  The g3d.dll error is one of the hardest to figure out.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim,

No worries you can only do what you can,would it be worth purchasing FSUIPC as I only have the unregistered(free version?) Just don't no if the registered version focuses more on CTD's??

Kind Regards
Josh

No it does not have to be registered and the freeware version will work great!  I bought it as Pete (the developer) had fixed the problem for me.  It just traps certain g3d.dll errors and I think it is mainly in the PNW of Orbx.  Elsewhere, the g3d.dll has not been fixed.  It is probably the most frustrating error in all of fsx.  Didn't look back at previous posts but did you disable all of your addon scenery to see if it might be one of those that are causing the problem?  Just disable in the Scenery Library and fly over the default.  If the error doesn't return, then it is most likely one of them.  Next, if that doesn't work, would be to remove all addon aircraft by simply moving the aircraft from the fsx airplane folder into a temporary folder.

Best regards,

Jim

If you really want to fix it you need to eliminate using whatever it is causing it. FSX alone does not cause it. For example: Perhaps you have an addon airport with too many facets in the area? You may get away with one addon airport in an area but maybe not two at once. You need consider that if you are landing at addon Heathrow, don't also have addon Gatwick enabled.

Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com

You might also add one or more of the following triggers in the Scenery section of your FSX.cfg.  FSX will then display an alert dialog identifiying the missing file / object, or render trigger areas.  It could help to find the problem causing the g3d.dll. error.  If the trigger is activated, FSX will freeze and tell you what is missing.  Just click okay and continue on until it happens again.  When many of us were having CTD's with the g3d.dll, this trigger stopped the crash from occurring but it was frustrating as the flight stopped until you clicked okay and sometimes there were many missing objects or textures.  But it will give you a clue as to what is causing you this problem.

Best regards,

Jim

[sCENERY] // To show alerts or areas, set to = 1 // To hide alerts or areas, set to = 0

// Alert for missing textures
ShowMissingTextureAlert=1

// Alert for missing objects
MissingLibraryAlert=1

// Render Trigger areas as visible boxes
ShowTriggers=1
