March 4, 201313 yr Greetings all, recently did the tweaks and updates to run DX10 as posted on this forum. However I did some low level flying just now and realized that my water textures seem to be almost pixelated or low quality. Here is a shot to explain: I've seen pictures such as these two that show a noticeable difference in quality. I am running REX as well. Any help would be appreciated. March 4, 201313 yr Very nice pictures. The best setting for water for DX10 is =5 in the fsx.cfg. But I really don't see anything wrong with the pictures posted. March 4, 201313 yr Author I do have my water set to 5, but only the first image is mine. The other two are off the REX forum and when comparing my water to the second image even, it seems a lot more pixelated and low res.
March 4, 201313 yr What are your REX water resolution / wave animation settings? The second image certainly looks fantastic, though!
March 4, 201313 yr All the REX DXT1 wave animations I've tried are rubbish IMO, producing exactly what you show in your first screen shot. The problem is that 32 bit REX wave animations, while looking far better than their DXT1 counterpart, can lower FPS. I've found that the stock FSX DX10 preview wave animation is an excellent compromise: they look convincing (if not great), have that DX10 white cap effect, and don't hit FPS. I use this with 2x High water and love it. Consider too that screen shots are biased, in that the best possible angle of inflection on the water is captured to make that shot look fantastic, take a quick turn over that same area and the water will show its FSX funkiness. I took your advice and went back to the default FSX DX10 waves. Like you said, much better visual quality, so I'm going to stick with those.
