Hmmm....

Not impressed at all. It more or less looks like default scenery, what am I missing? Man, I would like som REALLY nice scenery for X-plane. This just isn't it.

I got the regional US version of XPlane 10 turned all airport stuff to higest setting, went to KLAX and there are no nothing just flat tarmac with taxi ways and runways.

What a let down...

Screenshots dont look the slightest bit interesting..

xp10 is a beta plus there is also a nice payware KLAX available.

Glad to see 3PD doing scenery for X-Plane 10  :Applause:

But with that said, from looking at the screenshots the autogen still features way too many skyrise condo buildings everywhere which are not very typical of North America towns or cities outside Miami Beach or other coastal downtown areas.

Was hoping for a more immersive look different from stock XP10 or what we can do with OSM ourselves.

Totally agree with you on this one Glen,

I have accepted the "All Green planet" currently offered, but I wouldn't mind paying for something that totally changes the scenery look and offers seasonal textures.

This is our first attempt at completely redoing the textures.

Have a look at a couple of the screenshots. Weve been able to make 12 different urban textures, of varying density and distance from the downtown/CBD. Each of them is also blended with one of the other 12 terrain files (X-plane calles it a "composite" texture map) , giving 24 different non-repeating (well, at least I HOPE you can't see the repeating) patterns... XP10 actually automatically varies them; so hopefully your eye wont catch the fact we're cheating ;)

We have started to re-do all of Australia in this way. New GS towers, new windsocks (HDR lit), new urban textures, customized for each capital city for the type of housing and street loyout you generally find there - and done in a very VRAM-friendly way.

Basically, it's the urban textures that suck in XP10. The rural/farmland stuff is actually quite good. There's some new pastoral textures added in the 10.20 release which hasn't made it into the general mix yet - they are indeed excellent if used properly. (I made a "hack" last weekend which used these new ones, looks pretty good).

Sabach's new "Environment X" is also a must-have. Great Clouds, (he wrote his own GLSL shaders for it!), hi-def moons, excellent skycolours, distance light scattering effects, etc. I flew outof CYYZ this morning, and I was gosh-darned placed into that "suspended disbelief" state finally. ;)

(it also helps I'm doing a photoreal CYYZ at the time.. added to the immersion).

His file is here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=18582

Nothing but good things to say about his contribution... a real game-changer just for the visual environment alone. XP10 is definitely starting to look less sucky. ;)

Cheers.

OMG, someone from the XP world with a sense of humor? I like IT!

I've appreciated your posting at the bORG and X-Pilots. There isn't a whole lot out there on manipulating terrain in XPX, so every tidbit helps.

What I wanted to mention, is that there is also a nice file library here at Avsim, which includes options for X-Plane. It would be nice to start to see a steady stream of uploads for X-Plane in the library. Not to take away anything from the bORG, but thinking more along the lines of one-stop shopping. Which for me is here at Avsim.

You'd  think I'm the only one.... ;P

Anyways - I just retired my admin hat at org.. apparently a user has complained about a tounge-and-cheek remark I made regarding a scenery file which they clearly didnt read the description. Went all the way to randy @ x-plane (Austin's business partner). 2000 posts, 99% of which i think were helpful - all you need is one idiot to complain about you - poof, there goes any chance I had with doing something serious with X-Plane's founders...

I'll see about uploading some stuff here; if there's enough interest.
