ANd for all those out there. No, my desk is not always so clean. Here's what it looks like cluttered up when flying on VATSIM: (Qutescoop and/or XHSI on the secondary monitor) - CK.

CYTZ 1.0 Released: X-P.org: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=19525 X-Pilot: http://forums.x-pilot.com/files/file/479-cytz-toronto-island-airport/ CYYZ is chugging along.... Ran into some library.txt REGION_DEFINE bugs in XP10.20 which Ben Supnik @ Laminar is looking at for me. Should be along soon! (Im trying to replace much of the "autogen" with Canadian-Style Gas Stations, Coffee Shops (Timmies), Restaurants, etc... The effect is quite cool) - CK.

New x plane discs and errors starting x plane
X-Plane is trying to bind to the Networking Stack on UDP port 49000/49001. It uses these ports for multiple-PC display setups. Ensure you dont have any other software ruinning that is inhibiting this. Also check task manager (show all processes) and ensure there really isn't another copy of X-Plane.exe running anywhere. Also check any "defender" software which prevents programs from opening network sockets. X-plane runs like butter on mine. I dont see how that's relevant tho.... Another user had an instant messaging application installed on his system (pigdin? i think) which also tries to use UDP 49000/49001. He turned that off.... This is not necessarily an X-Plane issue - it's merely requesting network resources from your operating system, and the operating system is refusing. Same thing would happen if you tried to load Skype or uTorrent, and had a port usage conflict. X-Plane by default uses ports 49000, 49001, and 49002, and they're settable in the Ports tab of the network settings menu (if you can get it to load first!)

Looks like the Airport Authority didnt get the memo to shut down all operations and clear off the tarmac and all gates when the camera flew by... silly airport administrators. All our previous scenery (YSSY, YPAD, NZCH, YPPF, etc.) you'll notice we photoshop out anything glaring off the phototile.... ... are you vounteering? I dont quite understand if you're offering to help or not. If so, I'll send you the 4Gb of Imgaery and you can get started right away.! PM me and I'll get you hooked up to our imagery servers. Actually, you bring up a good point - i.e. Imagery and Public Domain/licensing/copyright/Intellectual Property rights... Some of my Imagery was CC-SA and was free at the time for non-commercial use; so if there's a migration from being originally a CC-SA derivitave rights licence, then becoming a non-exclusive commercial derivation licence with equal-ownership inheritence: 1. Does that mean that the original license holder owns 50% of the final product? 2. Does it only apply to new imagery downloaded? 3. Does it apply retroactively to previous works which were covered by the previous CC-SA Lience? 4. How does one calculate the percentage of joint onwership oweing to the original licensor? 4b. Is it based on the ammount of derived content? Is it based on relative file size? man hours applied to customizing the imagery? 5. How does one become compliant? Here's the T's and C's (its about an 8 page PDF) If you can have a look for me and advise what my legal course should be: http://www.nearmap.com/Nearmap/media/legal/nearmap-australia-terms-and-conditions-v3-apr13.pdf If you can let me know on this - Thanks! - CK

CYYZ and Surrounding Area Preview by ChrisK
Still working away in my man cave. Just popped a Samsung 840 SSD in the 'Pro last week; did another 2 dozen taxiway re-alignments. Ive also modeled the Burlinton Skyway over the Hamilton Harbour - a great VFR landmark. Ed's been busy doing up animated ferries from Queens Quay to the islands on the YTZ front. I'll try to get an updated Beta out in a week; there's much more I want to do before I'd consider this package "final" - CK.

X-Plane Add On's
I tried to upload my creations, but 1. I couldnt make heads or tails with the AVSIM uploader pages... Unusual Inetrface; not what I was expecting. 2. Somehow I could ony have 1 gigantic line of text to describe my file? No Formatting of description allowed? Just a gigantic text block with no CR/LF's? (see screenshot): 3. The Login isn't linked ot the main forum, (Secondary logins)... added another "barrier to entry" to anyone trying to push up a file. (Hrm, I have to register again? I thought I already was registered? Oh, and someone has "chris k", so I had to use a different name than on the forum) 4. I then had to make my own thumbnail? (GIF/PNG @ 150x150). 5. I have to use my real name. For everyone to see? Are you kidding me? On the public Internet? easily picked off by troll-bots lookign for names/email addresses? (I take great care in trying to keep my full name name out of text-indexible websites (Imagery is OK, it's not machine readable) 6. After much frustration in just trying to upload a single file, fighting with the text formatter, getting very confused with the order of operations it wants me to do things in: "Yes I would like to make changes or upload a file".. Ok, Yes, I want to upload my scenery file.. sorry no.. this is so I can upload a file on this page? .."Ok, no I would not like to make changes - and move to the next section".. Hang on, Wait a sec - Yes, Yes I *DO* want to upload a file, (the final content), but when I click on the "yes I want to edit or upload a file", it just takes me back to the page I'm aready on. .....I simply gave up. SInce the majority of my files are already hosted by the .org, x-pilot, or my own servers; It simply put a damper on me maitaining another repository here after that experience.

Terrain: North America Released Today
You'd think I'm the only one.... Anyways - I just retired my admin hat at org.. apparently a user has complained about a tounge-and-cheek remark I made regarding a scenery file which they clearly didnt read the description. Went all the way to randy @ x-plane (Austin's business partner). 2000 posts, 99% of which i think were helpful - all you need is one idiot to complain about you - poof, there goes any chance I had with doing something serious with X-Plane's founders... I'll see about uploading some stuff here; if there's enough interest.

Is there a 3d modelling exporter for x-plane 10 that actually works?

Terrain: North America Released Today
This is our first attempt at completely redoing the textures. http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=18715 Have a look at a couple of the screenshots. Weve been able to make 12 different urban textures, of varying density and distance from the downtown/CBD. Each of them is also blended with one of the other 12 terrain files (X-plane calles it a "composite" texture map) , giving 24 different non-repeating (well, at least I HOPE you can't see the repeating) patterns... XP10 actually automatically varies them; so hopefully your eye wont catch the fact we're cheating We have started to re-do all of Australia in this way. New GS towers, new windsocks (HDR lit), new urban textures, customized for each capital city for the type of housing and street loyout you generally find there - and done in a very VRAM-friendly way. Basically, it's the urban textures that suck in XP10. The rural/farmland stuff is actually quite good. There's some new pastoral textures added in the 10.20 release which hasn't made it into the general mix yet - they are indeed excellent if used properly. (I made a "hack" last weekend which used these new ones, looks pretty good). Sabach's new "Environment X" is also a must-have. Great Clouds, (he wrote his own GLSL shaders for it!), hi-def moons, excellent skycolours, distance light scattering effects, etc. I flew outof CYYZ this morning, and I was gosh-darned placed into that "suspended disbelief" state finally. (it also helps I'm doing a photoreal CYYZ at the time.. added to the immersion). His file is here: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=18582 Nothing but good things to say about his contribution... a real game-changer just for the visual environment alone. XP10 is definitely starting to look less sucky. Cheers. - CK.

Replacement Day & Night lighting ( for 10.20 )
Glad you guys are enjoying the lights.txt hack I pushed the file to x-pilot.com at the same time - their admins have to review each and every file before it goes live.. still waiting in the queue after 3 days. Check there if you dont have access to the other place... - CK.
