Replacement Day & Night lighting ( for 10.20 )

Featured Replies

Chris K and the ISDG group have made available new lighting for XPX.  Works on XP10.20 with no guarantees on any other version.

I just tried it out, I can see my PAPI lights in the day now!!  Simple .txt file replacement with 4 options based on your viewing mode.

Its at the .org:  http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=18742  with detailed descriptions.

Hi Chuck,

Have you noticed a sizable improvement other than the PAPI lights? Sky, clouds, are they better?

Wow, this is what I've been waiting for! The night time lighting looks so much better now. Flying at night seems much more livelier and realistic and not so drab. All this without having to resort to 3rd party addons is awesome!

Tried them too, and I do like what Chuck has done.

Great job Chuck!!!

Michel,

No cloud improvement Michel, this little item is just for the airport lights, PAPI lights and such.  Like captain 420 above says,

much more realistic at night.  I just took a night flight from KSEA  to KGPI (Glaicer National park) and you see a lot more highways and by-ways lite up at altitude.  It sure is great to be able to see the PAPI in the day.

You have 4 viewing modes to pick from to install based on your systems ability to handle HDR.

I used number 3 as I can just make 4XSSAA but no higher and I get into GPU melt.

Super easy install, copy and paste into the appropriate area.  Directions included

Pirata,

No, No, not me!!!     :O  :O  (Although I wish I had the savvy) It was Chris K and the ISDG group...(As noted on their directions)

I just put in the link to it.

This is good!  There is no difference in anything except the things that light up.  Airports show up much further in the distance during daylight hours. I used option 1 as I use no HDR. Great work!

I just finished testing this out and let me tell you, it makes the entire night flying experience so much nicer! Wow is all I can say! Amazing!!! If you guys love flying during night time, sunrise or sunset, you have to get this. I still can't get over how happy I am now. It's like an entirely new game for me.

Here's a screenshot of my final approach over KIAH.

Not a fan of x-plane but night flying is second to none - Amazing stuff. Wish fsx developers would take note.

That pic does look like an "Ultra-Realistic Flight Simulator" to me.

One of the aspects of XP that I really appreciate is that on my descent system I get that exact level of detail with out stutttters. Smoooth as silk, something that I could only dream of in FSX.

Outstanding work LR, keep those updates coming guys.

Okay here are some more screenshots. I decided not to re-size these down and kept it at their native resolution, sorry for the large files, they are 2560x1600. So you can see the details more clearly. To view the full size, you may have to click on the picture again. Enjoy!
