You should be able to run fsx fairly decently. If you plan on flying the NGX in Orbx scenery with rex clouds, then you might have a problem.

It would be sufficient to run FSX. Most of us running the latest overclocked hardware struggle to run FSX at "good setings" so you may need to lower your expectations depending on how high they are.

It will run FSX, but I expect you will need to turn down the scenery and AI traffic sliders to about the middle points.

Any chance you could provide sufficient information so we can help with whatever it is you're trying to acheive i.e. start from the beginning? Just throwing disparate CPU numbers and system configurations into a thread and asking for a performance score for FSX is not making it easy for anyone to assist you.

Sorry, i'm quite new to all the techy stuff, anyway.

These are my current system specs

Intel core, quad Q6600, 2.40GHz
4GB Ram
Nvidia GeForce 9600GT
Windows Vista

Currently, my average frame rates are 10-15 (PMDG MD11 at default AMS, drops with addon scenery). Ultimately i want to have my system running smoother, as at the minute i cant use the likes of LHR due to very low frames. The CFG is tweaked and FPSLimiter is used. 

So i'm either looking for a new system, or upgrading my current (preferred) to handle FSX better. 

On the cheap I'd recommend looking at overclocking your Q6600, 3Ghz to 3.2Ghz seems acheivable assuming you have a suitable motherboard and cooling, this will give you a boost in FSX.

 

You'll not be able to upgrade anything worthwhile for FSX without spending a fair bit as your motherboard, CPU and memory are all outdated, do you have a budget?

You're looking at a minimum of £350 just for a motherboard, CPU, memory and cooler bundle thats going to be worthwhile. You might be better off keeping an eye on the Dell refurb (factory outlet) site, they only seem to have Alienware stuff at the moment but I've seen pretty decent i7 XPS rigs for less than £500 - http://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?brandid=1&c=uk&cs=ukdfh1&l=en&s=dfh

I'd have to say not really, especially if you overclocked your existing CPU in which case there would be nothing in it. Moving from a quad core to a dual core CPU is a bit of a retrograde step and a quick google suggests that your existing graphics card is about on par with the GTX 630. Seriously you'll need to spend about twice that amount on a complete system to make it worthwhile.

 

If you want a decent performance boost for FSX for that kind of money and you're not comfortable with overclocking then you could consider something like this - http://3xs.scan.co.uk/ShowSystem.asp?SystemID=1295. You could use your existing graphics card for the short term and upgrade as and when you have the funds avialable.

 

If you're happy to give overclocking a go then you could either save some money and buy the components individually or spend about the same and get some extra RAM and higher grade parts.

 

Or as I've mentioned look around for a decent i5 or i7 based refurbished machine.

 

Or overclock your existing machine, a 1GHz increase in CPU speed will make a noticeable difference to frame rates and might not cost you anything.
