March 26, 201313 yr Hi. I have FS9 on a separate computer from FSX and was wondering if there is a specifc setup guide (tips and tricks for best performance) for FS9? I had loaded FS9 a few years ago, but as I remember I never did really tweak it any. March 26, 201313 yr If you do a search in this Library, there is a very good file to set up FS9 by the late great David 'Opa' Marshall called Tips&Tricks iiii.zip,or failing that, PM me and I'll send it to you. Rick Almeida
March 27, 201313 yr Hi. I have FS9 on a separate computer from FSX and was wondering if there is a specifc setup guide (tips and tricks for best performance) for FS9? I had loaded FS9 a few years ago, but as I remember I never did really tweak it any. Thanks, Jeff Smith Welcome to AVSIM Jeff and welcome back to FS9! Besides Ricks good advice, be aware that there are many, many post here and elsewhere about tweaking FS9. Some are superb, some are rubbish. My thought would be for you to start by reading through the post at the top of the FS9 forum started by Ian (Kiwiflyer) titled "A Huge FPS Increase". That will help you lay a good foundation as you start adding to FS9 and applying any 'tweaks' to the FS9.cfg file. It appears that you have a system that is very capable of running FS9. One absolute must is to apply the update to FS9 to make it FS9.1. If your Windows 7 is 64 bit then you would want to make FS9 "large address aware". If your W7 OS is 32 bit, you might want to research and create the "3Gb switch" or whatever it is called for W7 and then make FS9 "large address aware". Once these thing are done start with your graphics settings in the FS9 GUI and your graphics card interface or Nvidia inspector settings. Once you have everything looking pretty then move on to tweaking the FS9.cfg file to fine tune. I hope this helps. Regards, Mel
March 27, 201313 yr I must say that my fs9 looks better than fsx with my last tweaks, the only thing looking better in fsx is water. I have all settings maxed out, AI traffic at 90% and excelent smooth performance, 30fps(locked fps)all time, in all weather, on all airports. This is why i use both simulators. Here you can find a lot of onfo about fs9 in general: http://forums.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb25/YaBB.pl?num=1080212396 And this is what you need to tweak: http://forums.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb25/YaBB.pl?num=1211055375/0#7 I have my fs9 set like there, excepting fps lock to 24 and texture bandwidth to 240 - i get stutters and bad performance with this, in my opinion texture bandwidth should allways be default in fs9 and fsx. Fs9 deffault is 60 i think. And instead target of 24fps i use "vsync tweak" with 1/2 refresh rate in nvidia inspector and internal limit of fps set to 30. Nvidia inspecor setup like here: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/324786-nvidia-configuration-guide- inspector-2xxxx-drivers-version-20-explanations-of-all-settings/ - a second "8xS" setup, i changed only AA transparency supersampling to 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling(much better but harder on fps, try and see which is ok for you) and Vertical Sync to 1/2 with 30fps target with internal fs9 limiter. I Hope this will be useful Zeljko Budovic
March 29, 201313 yr Author Thanks for the help everybody. Mebull, the computer listed in my profile is for FSX. I have an older computer which was built up about the time FS9 came out. Just thought I would have both of them running. If I wanted to run both on the new computer I guess the best way would be to use a separate drive for another install of Win 7 and FS9 and then just boot up from the drive which has the sim I want to use. I will have Win 7/FSX both on a SSD with scenery, etc. on a Velociraptor. I figured I would used another SSD for the Win 7/FS9 setup.
