Weird Grey Textures

Featured Replies

Has anyone experienced this problem with weird grey boxes popping up everywhere you fly to? I had recently just started experiencing this weird phenomenon. I installed Nvidia 314.22 latest driver. Could that be the problem or is it something corrupted? It only happens once you take off and when you land (on the ground) those grey boxes disappear  I have FS 9.1. It happens with any plane.rsz_1asdasd.jpg

I find that latest NVidea drivers are not necessarily better, ( I have GTX680 ).  When you read the driver info it always refers to e.g. shoot up games etc using fast motion, which is not really a part of FS. I find one of last years drivers works best on my computer ( which is built for FS and mighty powerful !!).  I always download the latest and try it but end up going back, suggest you do a bit of experimenting till you find the best.

I tried going back to old driver, still the same thing happens( I have no clue what happened here

Have you installed any scenery enhancements I.E new autogen textures or suchlike? those grey boxes look to me like missing texture files of some sort ,perhaps buildings , trees etc etc. I have had this issue myself a number of times over the years ,unfortunately I cant remember how I solved it, but I don't remember it being difficult with help. Perhaps someone here can advise you.

Anyways ,looks like missing textures to me.

Hope you get it fixed.

I haven't installed anything recently to be honest. Those grey shapes appear and disappear constantly

I think the sim is trying to load untextured building in random locations. Is there any software to find out if your fs9 files are corrupted?

What happens if you pause the sim when you see this and zoom in on them?

Can you slew to them?

Are you using any addon scenery for that area?

Are you using default autogen and/or ground textures?

Joe

I have multiple add on sceneries but it happens all over the world on default sceneries as well as add on sceneries  I cannot slew to them because they appear and the next second the disapear then appear again, its like they are blinking in random places when I fly close to the ground

Pay special attention to Joe's questions, . . . . . knowing these answers give a lot of direction in where to look for the cause.

If they are appearing as you become nearer to them and disappear as you become farther from them I would guess that they are autogen buildings with textures that are either missing, have been changed or corrupted, which is what you have already surmised. The quickest fix I think is to simply copy the texture file from your disk set and paste / overwrite everything. That would of course cause you to loose any specially modified textures you are using but that could be where your problem lies anyway. As to your question about a software to find the texture(s), if the textures are not actually considered 'corrupted' then the answer is no. There is nothing I know of that will 'flag' a missing texture or one that is not corrupt. That of course doesn't mean there isn't such a program, just that I don't know of it.

Edit: I just got your post #7 as I posted. I'm sure it is no comfort, but that is very strange indeed. Please confirm that what you do see appears to be without texture.

For what it is worth I pretty sure this is not driver related.

They are there either if I am close to them or far, it doesn't matter. Those are not static grey objects. They actually look like grey X's from the top view. They load as I fly to any location. They appear where ever I choose to fly to. They appear and disappear in a matter of a second. It is like they are loading in  one are then disappear, then load in the other area

This gut told me on another forums told me this:

The white boxes means, that there are textures missing.

Try this: http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=ResAutogenTex.Zip&CatID=root

I downloaded resized autogen and trees textures and it WORKED! Hurray. I have no clue how they got corrupted in the first place. Very weird

So I can confirm that the problem were missing TREE TEXTURES. Those grey X shapes were missing trees. Figure that   I found exactly same problem with another flight simmer on a different forum. He described his problem which was exactly as same as mine.

Glad you got it fixed!
