May 27, 201313 yr Author DX10 is most assuredly on. Zoom level is default. I'll post my Inspector settings for you in a bit.Zoom default means .70? Or 75? With wideviewaspect=true or something like in the fsx.cfg that right? Inspector settings will be great thanks. C.
May 28, 201313 yr Nice thread , All though i have never had any good result trying to disable AA in FSX and using CCC. Always gives me bad stutter and poor performance. ATI5870 1GB CCC13.4 i7@950 4200 SSD128 GB win7 64 Raptor 300GB FSX Michael Moe
May 28, 201313 yr Author DX10 is most assuredly on. Zoom level is default. I'll post my Inspector settings for you in a bit. I am not sure what to say. I am eating crow here. Applied the AVSIM library downloaded DX10 patch and switched to DX10 mode and then I cranked Weather to all max sliders as well as Autogen and scenery and well..... I have definitely have 8xSSAA in FSX (forced vsync too all with Radeon Pro tool) with DX10 running and maintaining 30+ fps in overcast tests!?!?!?! WTH? Ok while DX9 AA is slightly sharper but only if you look for it, these framerates are out of control high. My tests are early and drinking coffee but I will test more later. Only a few show stoppers (which will make me cry!) The light has a box and the water is too light colored. Is there a fix for this?! FYI.... Crow never tasted sooooo goooooood. If the issues (with DX10) are minimal with my payware stuff, I might find it hard to give up SSAA in Dense overcast at these kinds of framerates but I have to concede that I have not tried the really bad areas. Like flying FSX's heaviest fps plane ever.... The JS41 into ORBX KSFF with a layer of overcast overhead. In DX9 that was 4xSSAA maximum and a struggle to stay over 24 fps but it was generally smoothish. This may be a game changer though. I did the GPUMark 3 Layer overcast Tourture test quickly with 8xSSAA and it was getting 30 fps!!! And this was with Maxed Weather sliders?!?! Wha?
May 28, 201313 yr Do you have REX? You can try different water texture/wave animations in that program. I use the default "sparkling" theme.

May 28, 201313 yr Author There's an entire forum here dedicated to the subject. Read-over the how-to guide and see for yourself. Link The process is slightly different now for an ATI guy... As in... No work arounds or FSX.CFG entries required for VSYNC and SSAA modes. RadeonPro utility works with FSX+DX10. Praise be! If I stick with DX10 (pending extensive testing of my add on's and ensuring no spiking scenery and so on and so on), I will be writing another thread with an exact point by point. It literrally took me 3 minutes to get it done. C.

May 28, 201313 yr Author What's the process for moving over to DX10? What are the known compatibility issues? What's the process for moving over to DX10? What are the known compatibility issues? Well to be honest, there is that problem I show in the screenshot. The lights on the plane in external view are square textures. Although not from inside the VC only when I am outside. And this morning on a quick tour of KHQM with every slider in FSX maxed I got a scenery spike or two. But I need to test more because this is not a very dense scenery area (KHQM) and Carenado's F33 is no PMDG JS41. That said. The "Blow my hair back" effect is that (only tested once) I can literrally fly through a few thick black layers of clouds with SSAA enabled with fps somewhat beyond 30 with vsync on. This is with MAXED Cloud Density and 80 mile draw radius. That would have been impossible for me in DX9. It's like the clouds are not even there performance wise. I have not tried BP=0 yet in cfg. ATI cards are notoriously good at handling that setting for whatever reason. Man I need a whole day off to test. C.
May 28, 201313 yr Yeah I agree, I just enabled it and rebuilt the .cfg file. It's a big performance improvement, running at my home airport (Manchester) under Active Sky 2012 with realistic rainy weather and 20% MyTraffic, in the lovely Majestic Q400 i am still getting 25fps, its very very smooth. Don't think I'll be going back to 9, unless it has issues with PMDG aircraft, i can live with poor night lights and odd sound issues with the Q400 on start. I'm impressed, I wish I'd discovered this DX10 thread earlier. Ian R Tyldesley

Lol  Blind as a BatHey C, is the RadeonPro util required for DX10 or optional? I never tried just with the CCC to apply AA and AF in DX10 to be honest but reality is this... RadeonPro only turns things (AA, AF Supersample/multisample) on and off in the CCC for you based on what game profile you have created. Only "extras" it carries is the ability to inject DX11 and 10 like post processing effects like SMAA and FXAA, but thier quality is suspect in other games as far as I am concerned but who knows. Have not tried in FSX DX10 yet. Also to do the funky on screen fps and video card load on screen display deal, force vsync (which I am sure never worked for me in CCC with FSX ever) and ... wait...Ooops. I guess I just answered that.... To force vsync without a line in fsx.cfg, apply multicore affinity mask without fsx.cfg tweak or do frame limiting externally and leave FSX unlimited, then yes. You need the utility. I have been using it for several weeks. It is harmless.FYI.... Not sure this is even applicable to DX10 but you can now enable Tripple Buffering in the RadeonPro tool and NOT get black screened like it does to DX9 mode FSX. As far as I am concerned I am not sure it helps with it on or off so I have it off. I need more time but sadly at work ATM.Another setting I would like to mess with that is DX10 or better normally is "Ambiant Occlusion". I want to see what it does in FSX DX10 if anything. As for the tool... I can't descrive it any better than this. http://www.radeonpro.info/Or demostrate it any better than this but this is only to watch how the tool is manuipulated. It really is a simply tool. The benefits he talks about regarding SMAA and FXAA are probably not so hot in FSX as SSAA is sharper in my experience so I stick with that. But play with it.I do not bother (yet as I doubt it makes it better in FSX) with MLAA, SMAA or FXAA. SSAA is likely the best for AA modes in FSX but test away!
May 28, 201313 yr As for the tool... I can't descrive it any better than this. http://www.radeonpro.info/ Yes i tried it...and didn't like it. I have it running well, looks great unless i see something deal breaking i 'ain't tinkering any more. It takes me days right now to install, gaining an extra 2-3 fps just doesn't interest me. Honestly C i think that many people who own FSX actually enjoy the tweaking more than the flying. Ian R Tyldesley

I just cross my fingers that there are minimal bugs going forward because the framerates are stupid smooth and high for me. Please let there be no bugs. Please. The patch fixed the immedate ones and it appears both nvidia and ATI can force high AA modes in DX10. Wow. C. Yes i tried it...and didn't like it. Honestly C i think that many people who own FSX actually enjoy the tweaking more than the flying. What about the tool bugged you? I can go without the tool. Set the settings in CCC provided I get vsync to work. I cannot live without vsync. But then I will need to add the affinitymask setting back into the cfg is all. Little secret about the tool. It's not running unless it's running. So having the tool on the computer does nothing. So even if I stopped I would still incorperate it for testing how much VRAM is in use, what my GPU utilization and framerate and GPU temp are in real time. That OSD tool in Radeonpro alone is gold man! C.
May 28, 201313 yr What about the tool bugged you? Well it seemed unnecessary, i do monitor temps and performance but use GPUz / CPUz. It's just more 'stuff' on my PC i don't need. Ian R Tyldesley

Were you able to get vsync to work? the forcefullscreenvsync line in the CFG has no effect nor does forcing via CCC but from RadeonPro it works. Weird... C.
