April 13, 201313 yr Hi Mike, Glad you are hanging out here. No problems from my end. Kind regards, Thanks, Stephen. I hope to communicate some of my renewed excitement about FS to users who may be getting bored. There are so many different ways to enjoy FS, so many ways to get deeply engaged if one wants to do that. Do you remember the tribute thread for Mel Ott? Captain Tarmac? 1300+ entries as I recall? Mel never got tired of FS and, if memory serves, was a pioneer of the home cockpit branch of the hobby. If a retired real world 747 captain was able to get that excited about FS2004, others can too. I know that I have. Flying has been in my blood since age four, and I'd be a commercial pilot today if my wife hadn't given me a choice in 1967 between her and flying for a living. (I chose her and don't regret it though I still dream of the airlines.)
April 13, 201313 yr Welcome back! Your depth of knowledge will no doubt be a huge benefit to a lot of people. Now you've got me wanting to go back to playing around with panels lol. Lee P.S forget about "him" just enjoy Avsim
April 13, 201313 yr Now you've got me wanting to go back to playing around with panels lol. N4gix, Bill Leaming, probably knows more about building panels from scratch than anybody I've met in fifteen years with this hobby. However, panel customization is something that any user can get into if he really wants to try. As I said above, my career as a panel customizer began with my desire to have a manual light switch integrated with the panel for the FS2004 default 737. If I recall correctly, my next project was installing the radio altimeter from the FS2002 default Concorde into the same 737 panel. There is a huge amount of useful stuff that can be done just using the gauges available in the default base FS2004/FSX system. All you need to do is familiarize yourself with the panels so you'll know what kinds of gauges are available to you in what amounts to the gauge library that is the factory system. (Example: The default 747 has a nifty icon-triggered pop-up chronometer that can be resized for use in any aircraft.)
April 13, 201313 yr Hi Mike, Glad you are hanging out here. No problems from my end. Kind regards, :good: Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
April 13, 201313 yr :good: Just for grins I measured the relative posting rate of Avsim versus FlightSim over a seven hour period during last night. Avsim has made amazing progress -- 178 posts where FlightSim had only 41, a ratio of 4.3. (And Avsim has most of the developers, too. Way to go, guys.) Another measure of Avsim progress as far as I'm concerned: Last night Avsim had 23,145 X-Plane posts versus 3753 for FlightSim. I care because X-Plane 9 is my secondary sim though I haven't had much time to work with it. And I saw that Avsim now has an Orbiter forum. Orbiter is something I play with now and then so I'll do some reading in there when I get a round tuit. My interest is rendezvous and docking but I don't yet know enough to want to try it.
April 13, 201313 yr Well Mike, to me you sound like the Better Man: Not sure what that other man does for fun but I am not sure he has much fun really Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
April 13, 201313 yr Wow, what happened to no personal attacks in the forum. While I appreciate your post, your enthusiasm, your knowledge and your contributions I find your airing of dirty laundry completely inappropriate. I think others jumping on the bandwagon and further disparaging someone who whether you like him or not has helped A LOT of us here is also completely inappropriate. Just my .02. I know Jim doesn't need defending but I thought no personal attacks on a forum member was a baseline standard for entry here... Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

What I did was to praise Avsim for doing a better job than the competition. However, ajpongress made a remark and I seconded it in some detail. I appreciate your concern about maintaining the proper tone and will be interested to see what the mods have to say, if anything. My goal is not to make trouble. It's to try to bring a new perspective to FS for some of the users who may be getting bored. My having had my say, the person in question no longer exists as far as I'm concerned, and if the moderators want to edit my remarks I will understand completely. And yes, he's been very helpful to many people. I never said differently.

You didn't just come in here and post, you came in and gave a pre-amble calling out Jim, Nels, Flightsim.com PRIOR to your post (which I quite enjoyed btw) so you did indeed begin this entire thread with airing your dirty laundry. Then you went on to make comments I find highly inappropriate and I hope the mods do as well. I think had you just posted your copy/pasted from your original topic on the other site and left out the background info and the names and now the insults it would have done just fine. The reposted content isn't inappropriate , the preamble commentary seems dirty laundry and isn't appropriate to this reader . A mod has already commented btw. Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

I'll repost my material above to the beginning of a new thread and I won't react to anything that gets done with/to the thread we're in now.
April 13, 201313 yr And an administrator said my post was just fine with him. ............ You have also been warned over one of your posts in this thread, which has been removed. Please play nice, follow our ToS and all will be fine.
April 13, 201313 yr And an administrator said my post was just fine with him. I was only commenting on your first post which I read from my notices. The subsequent ones however are entirely different. Its a dangerous thing to use the acceptance of a moderate post to provide license for another more aggressive one. I agree wholeheartedly with Tom's warning message to you and I hope you heed it as you can be a major contributor to AVSIM so would like to see you stay around. Kind regards,
