April 27, 201313 yr Hi guys, expecially the real world Q400 ones, what is the correct landing techniquite for teh Dash? I'm always approaching at Vref+5 and pull the thrust to IDLE at approx 20ft and then try to flare with around 5-6° nose up, but I'm always experiencing some quite hard touchdownrates. What do I have to improve to get smoother landings? Thanks for your answers in advance regards Emi Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!
April 27, 201313 yr I keep power on until I touchdown, then bring throttles to idle-reverse. Make sure to feel the aircraft, that will result in nice touchdowns...
April 27, 201313 yr Keep power in, fly ref + 15 until short final, slowly remove power. Carry a little to touchdown, on touchdown idle, then disc, reverse as required. Do not go above 5 degrees usually, you risk a tail strike. Additionally most landings are flaps 15, rarely need a 35 flap landing. It's a dash, a normal landing will be firm, if you grease it, then you floated too much. Cheers, Todd ATP MEL Commercial SEL B-747, BE-300, BE-400, DHC8, ERJ 170/190, MU-300 C-17A Globemaster III
April 27, 201313 yr Fly the aircraft into the runway with power on. Then bring it back and into disk/reverse as you touch the ground. Works for me. The new tutorial - written by a Q400 pilot, lists the landing technique for flap 15 and 35.
April 27, 201313 yr Author Roger guys thank you for the tips. I'll practice them and see how I can get the aircraft down smoother Greetings from the 737 flightdeck!
April 27, 201313 yr I don't know if this applies to the OP, but keep in mind that due to the external FDE used in the Q400, the touchdown rates shown in Acars is not correct. But, like I said, don't know if what you are referring to as hard touchdown rates stems from Acars programs? Daniel Nilsson
April 27, 201313 yr As the others have said, the trick is to approach at VREF+10, and keep the power on during the flare, don't chop the power whatever you do. A fraction before you touchdown, at the 10 feet call works, reduce power "slightly". For flap 35, VREF+5. Nose should be down a degree or so.
