May 9, 201313 yr In FTX I can get close to 100FPS (Fraps) but the same location/flight in P3D is around 40FPS. Sliders in similar settings for both programs. The other odd thing is that FTX has high GPU (video) usage at around 80 to 90%. However, P3D is around 30%. I set P3D to same nVidia Inspector parameters as FTX but no change. May 9, 201313 yr Are you sure you're not using a higher LOD in P3D ? As you're certainly aware, it is set from the Settings Menu inside the simulator, in the Scenery tab, and comes by default at 6.5, which is way too much... I've used it at 5.5, but set it back to my FSX standards of 4.5. Also, beware the scenery / texture / mesh complexity is higher for settings with the same quantitative designation under the P3D and FSX Scenery settings, the same applying to AI level. A 50% AI in P3D gives you more aircraft than the same setting in FSX, I believe. And, more important - in P3D, contrarily to FSX, the lower FPSs don't imply S-T-U-T-T-E-R-I-N-G :-) And, last but certainly not least, you've probably noticed how much better / crisp your graphics (specially complex high resolution inst. panels), are displayed in P3D as opposed to FSX. Even at much higher settings through the CFG and Nvidia Inspector, I can't get the same results and satisfaction in FSX that I get with P3D! May 9, 201313 yr Moderator jcomm is correct. You cannot compare the two setting to setting. Autogen normal is P3D is like very dense in fsx, etc. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
May 9, 201313 yr Author
Good points... I was not aware of the calibration between P3D and FTX options/sliders. So I set all sliders, and other values, to minimums in P3d which doubled FPS to +80. However, not to the level of FTX with sliders/values set to normal levels.

I have always had a visual issue with P3D water. Even the smallest pond has waves - ugh. So I placed the aircraft (the Trike in this case) in the Algerian desert on the edge of a lake. All values and sliders to minimums and now the FPS is over 600 when facing the view AWAY from the lake. Also at that point the GPU usage is at 75%. Facing toward the lake the FPS drops to 470 and GPU usage rises to 99%. Guess I'll practice landings in sandstorms. <img src="http://forum.avsim.net/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png" class="bbc_emoticon" title="<_<" />

Will mess around some more but I am guessing that water is an issue on my system. Water and bathymetry are unchecked. Reflection slider is always at a minimum.

Set everything to their usual values and loaded the flight that was giving low FPS in P3D. Now at 149FPS. Scenery extremely dense, autogen at normal, terrain at 3.5, mesh and texture sliders at max.
regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA

Would you recommend using the BP=0 tweak to pass more of the load to the graphics card? Will Reynolds Flight Sim Addict
