May 16, 201313 yr I am thinking about purchasing this awesome plane, one question thought.. i don't have rudder pedals and a throttle quadrant... I am only using a joystick.... After reading into it i hear that you are not able to steer on the runway without a rudder ??? Is there a way to take off for me without rudder pedals ? i don't have money right now to buy the plane and the pedals.. PMDG 737 NG ORBX FTX Australia REX FsCaptain
May 16, 201313 yr Commercial Member you don't use pedals for steering! You have to use the steering tiller which is commanded in different ways - one of the possibilities is to steer with elerons axis. You will need the rudder during the takeoff, since the tiller is de-activated after 40 kts. I don't have pedals either and I use the plane without any problem.
May 17, 201313 yr Author What is steering tiller ? and how would i be able to assign keys to that ? I am sorry i want to know that i can fully enjoy this aircraft before buying it! PMDG 737 NG ORBX FTX Australia REX FsCaptain
May 17, 201313 yr I also use only a joystick. Small corrections to the steering can be made by twisting the yoke, ie rudder control and large ones, as stated, by moving the yoke from side to side, ie ailerons. Regards, Nick

The tiller is the rotary control that steers the nosewheel. Usually in FSX designers link this to the rudder, but majestic have opted to use aileron or spoiler channel to drive the tiller. Or you can use the mouse in the VC. The rudder still is linked to the nosewheel but only with limited authority, as aircraft. Using the lateral control for steering is a little odd at first but you get used to it. Having rudder pedals won't change how this works. Don't let this put you off, its a brilliant sim.
May 20, 201313 yr If you have a twist-grip type joystick that inputs rudder axis, this will work fine. I'd set up the options to have aileron axis as the nose wheel steering because it's just easier than using the mouse, and gives you a reasonable amount of control. I usually taxi with the gust locks on so that the aileron doesn't move around. On takeoff just use the rudder (twist grip) after you reach takeoff thrust (gust lock off and full prop RPM should be takeoff checklist items). I have been flying fine just using a Saitek Cyborg Evo joystick (twist grip for rudder, move the whole stick left/right for nosewheel steering when less than 25kts.) May 27, 201313 yr I can't seem to figure out this ground steering stuff. I have a Saitek yoke--no pedals. When I go through the first part of tutorial 1 eventually all the warning lights are out except "nose steering". I tried setting the control panel both to aileron and spoiler steering. I don't use FCUIPC to control the controls, just FSX. I probably don't have the settings correct. I wonder if someone could take me step by step through the process, so I can actually complete this tutorial and fly the plane. Thanks. Dan Cole
May 28, 201313 yr Warning light (yellow) "Nose Steering" isn't saying you need to use FSUCP or get new controls. It means you need to flick the "Nose steering" switch on the panel (far left near the Captains knee) to the "on" (Forward) position. With this switch off (aft) it disconnects the hydraulics from the nose wheel steering system, which is good to do when you are being pushed back with a pushback truck, or parked up with the engines and hydraulics off. Cold and dark would default this switch to the off position. Trent Hopkinson, 2015 Crewmember of www.mangrove.com.au WorldFlight sim Youtube channel www.youtube.com/user/musicalaviator
