Some help with sweetfx

Featured Replies

I know there's already a thread for sweetfx, but I can't seem to find an answer to my problem so indulge me for just a moment.

It's simple.... I install sweetfx and fsx won't start. Something about components can't be initialized and that fsx needs to be repaired. Remove sweetfx, and fsx works.

The only thing I could find was that anti-aliasing needed to be unchecked, but even that doesn't cure it.

I don't have any real reason for trying sweetfx, as I have fsx set up the way I like it and everything works great.

But you know how we are .... the dictum "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" just doesn't seem to apply.

Anyway, any ideas?

Thanks in advance

John

I install sweetfx and fsx won't start.

That happened to me when I tried altering SweetFX_settings.txt so as to personalize it.  I found out that the program is sensitive to any kind of change in the .txt file (extra spaces, for example).  Have you made any changes like that?

It also took me a few extra minutes to properly decipher and understand the authors installation instructions which have to be followed accurately (the new folder in the FSX tree as well as the appropriate settings .txt(s) outside of the tree).

I haven't even gotten to thepoint where I change any settings. Also, it's not creating a log file.

I did exactly as the install instructions said, simply copy all the contents of the unzipped file to the root fsx folder.

Then, when I click on FSX, it gives me a message about some components could not be started so fsx was exiting.

Oh, well... as I said, everything works fine without it. I was just lookingf or something to tinker with.

Thanks for your replies, though.

Sweet is very cool should post what the message is saying that would help people to diagnose it - thanks.

Yeah, I knew I should post the error. Here's what it looks like. Again, it's after doing no more than copying the files from the sweetfx folder.

OK, I tried something... process of elimination. I deleted the d3d9.dll file and FSX starts.

I dont have FSX set up for dx10; is that a clue?

Which version are you using, I have had problems loading fsx wont start with just one line or something messed up in the settings.txt file send me a pm and I will send you the files that I know work and go from there - thanks

I think I fixed it... funny how things come to you.

I downloaded another version of d3d9.dll and FSX starts.

Yeah, me!

you just have to update the DX10

What do you mean?

What do you mean?

that for SweetFX work must be updated DX10, no matter you already have in the system, accurate update. Many have the problem that when I recently installed it does not work and do not know about the update

There are no updates for DX 10 and sweetFX works just fine with any version of DX10.
