June 10, 201312 yr Another thing you can do to reduce playback lag or skips is to set the RC process to higher priority and/or set its core affinity to another, less active processor core, using Task Manager. Doing this has decreased the lag and skips considerably for me even on my underpowered system.

June 10, 201312 yr Good suggestion regarding increasing the process priority in Task Manager. There are several utilities that allow you to save the process priority so you don't have to re-assign it every time you run an application. I use a utility called Prio, which is free for personal use.
