September 2, 201312 yr When I visit openstreetmaps I dont see textures like satellite photos? What am I doing wrong? I've imported a small section into Xplane using the programs mentioned here but didn't get the ground texture Sean Kind Regards, Sean McCormackFPSPLAYERS.COM Game and Voice Servers
September 2, 201312 yr Author When I visit openstreetmaps I dont see textures like satellite photos? In OpenStreetMap you'll only see a map. If you start editing (inside your browser with iD, or with JOSM), then you'll be able to see orthophotos as a background. http://goo.gl/Dwjl1v In X-Plane, OpenStreetMap is used for the default sceneries. Here you can find what data is used: http://developer.x-plane.com/2011/04/osm-what-data-will-the-global-scenery-use/ With XPOSM you can also import newer roads, railways and power-lines. With OSM2XP you can import 3D buildings based on their OSM footprint (and height if available), forests, and objects like communication towers, water towers, wind turbines, light houses... If you also want orthophotos as ground textures in X-Plane you need to install additional sceneries for this. You can find photo sceneries here: - realscenery.com - simheaven.com - zonephoto.x-plane.fr - ... and in most shops with X-Plane add-ons Or you can create your own photo sceneries using tools like GMaps or G2XPL. But that's another topic. Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -
September 2, 201312 yr Moderator I've been doing a lot in my area as well, and have setup OSM2XP just how I like it. I noticed that the default settings in OSM2XP miss out on alot of objects and also the size settings are completely wrong. I've been experimenting to get the best results, and would be happy to share my settings if anyone is interested. But basically, I do the following: - Reduce the size of the buildings without height tags to between 8-10m - Added facade rules, for apartments, terraces, flats, garages, roofs (Which are missing and don't get generated) - Added new forest rules for landuse=scrub, landuse=cemetry. This adds more vegetation than just forests. - Added object generation rules for churches, cathedrals, mobile-phone towers, water towers. The affect is brilliant, especially in well covered areas like France. In X-Plane, after using XPOSM and OSM2XP you can see the result here (with old low-res ground textures): It looks awesome doesn't it :-). The affect is really stunning when used with photoscenery and about as real as well will get for now in a flight-simulator. So much so, that I don't want to go back to FSX, even though the new C172 is out shortly :-) Edit: Just noticed that simheaven.com seems to have updated their OSM as well, to use more sensible size settings similar to my settings and less red-roofs. The absolute best area in Europe is without a doubt France and Holland. Belgium is pretty empty, but I've noticed Poland is being developed pretty quickly. I'm doing my best to add buildings in the UK, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of mapping activity with regards to buildings there (which is unfortunate).
September 2, 201312 yr Author Belgium is pretty empty, but I've noticed Poland is being developed pretty quickly. Yes, in Poland they worked a lot for their sceneries in OpenStreetMap. They also made this famous video: Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -
September 2, 201312 yr The absolute best area in Europe is without a doubt France and Holland Thx for that info, they seem really well covered. Another country to fly in for me Seems I might have to check Poland too, I remember that video. It's definitely PHOTO + OSM that makes the best scenery in flightsim currently. i9 9900k - 32 gb RAM @ 3200mhz - 2070 RTX 8gb
