3 monitors via Matrox Triplehaed2go

Featured Replies

Hello members,

I need your help if possible. I recentle bought the Matrox triplehaed2go splitter, but I can't get it started.

After connecting my 3 (identical) monitors to the triplehead2go and connecting the splitter to my pc I started up the computer full of expectation. The pc recognized the 3 monitors, so far so good, but,,, as soon as my desktop screen (I don't know if this is the correct name) things went wrong. The desktop background image was spread over the middle monitor and a small part on the right and left monitor. But there was noting to see of any program icons or the taskbar normally visible at the bottom of the desktop screen. I thought the screen resolution was to high (1920 x 1080), and therefor the taskbar and the few icon on the left side of the screen fell outside the screen. So I right clicked to go to the Nvidea configuration screen to lower the resolution a bit. Nothing happend. The little hourglass emerged for 3 seconds , disappeard again and that's it. No access to the configuration menu of Nvidea. Nothing of the other possibilities after the click with the right mouse button works. So I can do nothing any more, not even turn of the computer (because there was no “start” button visible, no taskbar remember). My reasoning was to shut down the pc (holding the on/off switch for a few seconds) connect only 1 monitor (middle) directly to the pc totally ignoring the Matrox splitter so I could download the necessary software first. The result was almost the same. The middle monitor lit up, the desktop background image was shown, but once again without showing any pictogram or the taskbar. Clicking the right mouse button resulted in the same way as with the Matrox. In other words ,nothing worked and I can't do anything with my pc (I write this on my other pc, the one I'm talking about I use almost only to fly the Microsoft Filght Simulator X). What can/should I do please?

System:

Windows 7 Home premium SP 1

CPU: Intel i7-3770 3,4 Ghz

Graphics: Nvidea GTX 560

16 Gb ram

Motherboard: MS-7728 VER 2,0

Monitors: ASUS VE247H (3x)

Thanks in advance,

Did you download/install the matrox control/manager software? It should be simple enough to set up from there

  • Author

That's part of the problem. As you see in the screenshots there are no pictogram's or no taskbar visible on the desktop screen that I can click on to enter the internet and download the control manager software, or the latest drivers (if needed). I can try whatever I want, nothing happens. Putting the dvd that comes with the splitter in the computer also does nothing. The dvd station closes but it doesn't read the dvd and, once again, nothing. So I can't download the software via a link on the dvd or so.

I asked the same questions of my first post from this morning at the support of Matrox directly, but due to the weekend (I guess) no answer so far.

I must confess that I'm not a great computer connoisseur, so may be there's a simple solution to perhaps enter the internet during start up of the computer or so, but I don't know it. This is all I can tell you.

Thanks again, may be you know a little bit more now so you can possible help me.

kind regards,

Eddy

Hmmm...I don't remember installing any software on mine but perhaps I did. I thought that I went into my video settings on Windows 7 after I installed my TH2Go and it had a selection for a new monitor that was 3600x1024 and I just selected it and *poof*...it worked.

Its where you set up rez, where new windows appear and bazel control for alining the 3 screens correctly.

Cant rem the whole process but from memory you beed to;

Download the CORRECT. and up-to-date version of the matrox th2go software (dig & vga diffrent).

Update your th2go's firmware if required.

Tell matrox software your resolution.

Set the displays (1.1, 1.2 & 1.3) as required in the matrox software. From there you also set the primary display for your taskbar ect.

Set the bazel control to take out the monitor edges, and set up a keyboard shortcut to start/stop bazel control when you need to.

In a nutshell that shoud be it. I dont think you will get it working correctly without the use of the matrox software, use that to adjust your resolution rather than adjusting it thro the video card.

Once its setup and running your done, your nearly there from what i can see.

If you check the th2go/matrox software there should be set-up help.

Hope this helps a bit!

Just another quick one, my th2go digital needs a power supply (usb) make sure its got power

Its also how its controlled

  • Author

Thanks everybody, but.. Ricardo

I've got the feeling that you're  "just another quick one" could be the solution. I  read somewhere that the power for the TH2go could come from a powered USB connection on the pc, or from a separate power supply but because of the fact that I have a bit of a image on the left and right monitor (see first request for help) I thought that the power was OK. May be it isn't and is that the solution, no power to drive the TH2go. I wil wait for the eventual answer from Matrox and following that answer, I will order the separate power supply.

But the strange thing is that when I disconnect the TH2go and connect my middle monitor directly to my pc, totaly ignoring the Matrox splitter,  I got the same result (see other image of the single monitor): no icons or no tastkbar to see on my desktop. Nothing works, not even when I try to access my Windows explorer (via knob windows+E). Clicking the right mouse button in the dekstp screen to try to enter the Nvidea configuration window: nothing happens ! It looks like the pc is frozen :-). This situation has nothing to do with the TH2go at that time, so what is wrong this time ? Computers !

Awaiting some reply (hopefully)

Hi FT: you should have lots of software for the TH2Go, here is my folder as an example. I have always plugged the power wire into any old USB2 or 3 on the back of the PC, and this has never failed.

There's a pretty good guide on how to set it up here.

Hello Canada (Paul),

thanks for the reply, but... everybody who as answered my request for help seems to mis one thing, I can't get into my computer. Whatever I try, I can't get acces to anything. No internet connextion, no windows explorer, nothing works. The only thing I see is the image of my desktop background. This is even so after I disconnetcted the th2gO. (see the 2 images encloes with my first request)  After re-starting the pc (after disconnecting the Matrox device), it stays the same. Nothing works, so the problem has nothing to do (any more) with the TH2go I guess. This problem must be solved before I can download the necessary software.

Does anyone thinks that running the recovery disc (what comes with the Medion pc) could solve the problem? I have to do it during the start up of the pc (via Bios?) because after the cd-rom does go into the dvd-staions and into the pc also nothing happens.

Thanks again to anyone who takes the time to read this and try to help me. We'll get there in the end !

With Belgian regards,

Eddy (and overhere it is time to go to sleep now - 11.15 PM)

PS: I will read the "here" text tomorrow, but the first line also indicates that it is important to download the special software before you can do anything else, so I'm stuck.

PS²: perhaps I don't always use the right (pc)expressions ,or I make some spelling mistakes, but I'm no computer expert and I learned Englisch by trail and error.

Hi Eddy,

I have 3 x 24'' Monitors connected to my TH2G and the resolution you need is 5760 x 1080. (The 5760 is 1920 x 3 Horizontal Pixels and the 1080 is the Vertical Pixels) .

Your Graphics Card (GTX560) Can handle this as I have the GTX550 and it works fine. You do need to download 2 files from Matrox. 1 is to update the firmware on the TH2G and the 2nd is the Latest Powerdesk Software. These are needed to enable the resolution above.

In order to do this in your situation (I had the same problems initially) you will need to boot the PC in Safe Mode with Networking. When you reboot press the F8 key and it should give you a screen with the boot options. Make sure you select the safe mode with network option to allow you to access the internet to download the files. I am assuming that you have the Triplehead2Go Digital Edition.

http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/support/gxm/drivers/download/latest/

It will be a bit painful with Safe mode because your low resolution will spread across the screens but you have to work as best you can.

If you succeed in getting the files (you could always download them on a 2nd computer and put them on a USB stick) run the firmware upgrade first. Do NOT do ANYTHING when this is running.

When that is complete. Run the Powerdesk Installer 2.08.01.032.

Once the software is installed shut down your PC via the Start Button and restart.

Let the system restart in normal mode.

When Windows completes the boot up right click on any screen and you should see  a menu which has Screen Resolution on it. Click on that and you should see your Matrox as the primary display. In the resolution box you should be able to select the 5760 x 1080 resolution. If not you will need to launch the Matrox Powerdesk Software and  go into the Multi Display Setup menu.

Hope this helps in some way. By the way, when you do get it going and run Flight Simulator (I use FS9) make sure you run it in Windowed mode and not full screen. In my experience the TH2G does not like full screen mode and the frame rates are much lower.

One update to above.. the links for the Matrox Powerdesk SW above points to the 32bit Windows 7 Version. You can get the 64bit version here http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/support/gxm/drivers/  you may need to click on Software Download again and then select your type of Triplehead and Operating System.

Good morning Hoochy,

it works with you,.... I hope it has nothing to do with the luck of the Irish ! ^_^

I''m going to translate your reply, study it (no comp. genius remeber), and go through all the steps and hope for the best. I have indeed the digital edition.

Thanks for helping,

I'll keep the forum posted.

Happy landings everybody,

Eddy

Hi Eddy,

sounds like your explorer.exe has stopped working, if you have lost taskbar and icons.

Press CTL+ALT+DEL to get to your task manager,  go to 'processes' scroll down and look for explorer.exe.

If not there, go to 'file' and then 'new task'

In the next box, type in explorer.exe and then click OK.

NOTE;  Do not mistake this with iexplorer.exe.

If explorer.exe is there, then highlight and select 'end task'  then follow above to create a new one.

your taskbar and icons should now be visable.

Ron.

To Hoochy, Ron (and all the others),

I'm getting close®, but I'm (we are) not over the finish yet. I followed the instructions given by Hoochy. After a few attempts to start in safe mode (I pressed the F8 button to quickly and couldn't enter the appropriate screen) I was able to start the computer in safe mode. I already downloaded the correct firmware and the Powerdesk software on my other computer and on a USB stick. After copying the 2 files to a map on my pc,  I installed the firmware first, as proposed by Hoochy. So far so good. The computer has to be restarted, which I did. But I got back the same screen as the upper image of my original request, still with no icons or taskbar). I restarted the pc in safe mode again, and then I wanted to install the Powerdesk software. Problem ! Message on screen: " Windows installer doesn't work in safe mode" ! Back to square one  .

I'm more and more convinced that the problem has nothing to do with the TH2Go (because in safe mode the windows explorer screen was spread over the 3 monitors) but it may be a windows issue. That's where Western Australia (hopefully) comes to my rescue. I am gonna try the sollution by Ron tonight and post an update after doing so.

It has become an international problem B). It's my first time on this forum (only simming for appr. 1 year) but I'm full of admiration for the response. Why is it so difficult for the rest of the world to help each other to solve their problems???

Until the next post, thanks to all of you.

Eddy

Hi Eddy,

you could connect one of the monitors to the VGA port on the video card. this should allow you to boot in  normal mode and be able to install the powerdesk software. once that is done you could reconnect the monitor to the triplehead and reboot..hope that helps..

By the way I have a 4th monitor (17'')  running alongside the triplehead to display flight plans, charts weather etc.. it can be useful

Hoochy, Ron

first of all, I couldn't wait to try the Ron-way, but unfortunately.....no respons on screen. No task manager came up. As I said before, the screen looks frozen. So I guess it's back to Hoochy for the next attempt  :P

Hoochy, I noticed that you have a 4th monitor. Nice setup by the way. Only simming for one year I can't complain (my financial situation considered). I own The Saitek yoke, throttles, peddals and trimwheel. My next buy's will be the 3 panels you have (one by one of course). First of all this problem needs to solved. After super I'm going to give it a go.

Untel then, regards guy's
