July 3, 201312 yr Your detail1.dll got switched out causing this. The original file is on one of the 4 FS9 CDs. Sorry, I don't know which one or which folder.
July 3, 201312 yr FS9 uses high res textures around the plane and switches to low res further away. The effect can be lessened by reducing visibility and/or using different textures. It is most obvious over water, but exists over land too. Your detail1.dll got switched out causing this. There is no such file in FS9. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
July 3, 201312 yr What causes the dark blue cross in that topdown view? I'll provide the exact name of the file later on when I am at my FS computer.
July 3, 201312 yr This is actually no problem at all - you're flying high and don't have extended terrain textures turned on. You've also installed a non-stock set of ground and water textures. All of your sims do this by default...
July 3, 201312 yr OK the correct name is detail1.bmp located in FS\secenry\world\scenery. Should be dated 5/21/2003.
July 4, 201312 yr Author Thanks all,iv`e reinstalled fs9 and no detail.bmp shows in any fs9\scenery\world\scenery file, ansdmy extended terrain is on,so the mystery remains unsolved.

What you are seeing in the extremely zoomed out top down view is as already been said, pretty much normal. What you are seeing in the Spot view and I assume from the cockpit is also annoying but normal, again, as has already been said. The way FS9 handles the textures used for drawing the water at a distance using a 'dumbed down' texture to cut down on used resources result in what you see. Best way to deal with that is to limit your sight distance so that visibility or the lack of it act to obscure the difference between near and far. Essentially fogging out the 'dumbed down' texture set. As Jim responded: Detail1.bmp, note that it is not detail.bmp, there is no stock detail.bmp that I have ever seen anywhere. I hope this helps. Regards, Mel

Mel is right about the file name, and you can't find it because Jim gave you the wrong path. That file lives in \scenery\world\texture. regards, Joe The best gift you can give your children is your time.
July 4, 201312 yr Author Thanks fellers i`ll try the sight distance and see! Oh bye the bye that bmp according to google has to do with grass textures.

Correct all the way around. Bad day for Jim This has been discussed at length in many threads in the past. It appears to be a FS2004 limitation as mentioned by mebull above.
