Canada Roads from Joel Gill

Featured Replies

I see that Joel Gill has used the public geobase.ca database to release roads for four Canadian provinces so far. I checked out Alberta: lots of roads! And yes, they use flattens for at least major roads. There aren't any excludes, so I wonder if we'll see duplicate roads to the MS default? I don't know the area well enough.I see that the TransCanada west of Calgary is missing a chunk, so I don't know how complete the roads are, but overall it looks great! It'll be very interesting when/if he releases British Columbia, the coastlines and landclasses are quite far off there (500m or more), so in particular island communities, like Victoria, may look a little wonky. Third party coastline refinements have tended to still have this offset, so perhaps this will encourage more accurate coastlines. Thanks, Joel, for this release, much appreciated.Jon

I see from the Geobase website that BC and New Brunswick data will not be ready til March.I did notice a curiousity in the foothills of the Rockies in Alberta: some roads were interrupted for a stretch BUT the missing part was still flattened! Could this be a texture issue?Jon

Hi all,ok, consider this version as a pre-release. There are somes holes where the BGL switch to the other BGL, I think I know what it is causing this, but if you have solution, I would appreciate, it will be corrected in the next version. It will include all Canada in one download.Until the next release I would like your comments so that the next release will be top notch.Joel

Joel, I will start another thread in the scenery support forum, and I will post road breaks I find there.I do wonder if there is a fix you could make in your processing, there are so many breaks, it will be difficult to fix them all manually.Jon

Jon...I'd love to see screenshots of the project, w/any province... Can u post some in the screenshots forum?-John

Hi John, I've posted 5, the limit. If you know a better place to post, lemme know. I appreciate the demands on AVSIM, but the limitations on size and number of screenshots are tight. Lemme know if there's somewhere else I can post some more . . .I'll post just one here.Jon

Excellent, thanks for the support for us Canucks!

Happy to report your Canadian roads work fine in FS2002 !!!!!! That is awesome for those of us mired back in the "stone age" of flight sim. Any thoughts about doing the rest of North America? Your "price" will give the competition heart murmurs. ;)-------------------Racartronit means something, but I just can't remember whatifdgsupport.jpg

Great job Joel! Thank you for all your work.Bill
